Deci/Vess List

By SDCC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

I've got possibly my last 1.0 tournament coming very soon, and I wanted to use a Defender, which in my eyes means Vessery.

Can I pair her with a Decimator?

Something like this?

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Trick Shot (0)
Agent Kallus (2)
Rebel Captive (3)
Tactician (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Expertise (4)
Ion Cannon (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)

Total: 100

Chir kites whilst Vess goes in?

So in a case where Vess' wingmate does not have Fire Control System, he wants to be the one to shoot first. This way, his buddy can aquire the TL and spend it after Vess gets the benefits.

What you have going on isn't going to work very efficiently, though I know Expertise Tie/D Vess is powerful for sure. If you want to fly these two you should really have VI on Vess to bring him to 8 and shoot first.

With that in mind you would have some extra points to play around with to increase RAC's power perhaps.

While you absolutely can pair Vessery with RAC, it's probably not the best pairing and a lot of that crew isn't the most effective for a decimator anyway. Admittedly, you probably could get some use out of Trick shot, but there are much better options depending on how many points you can free up. Agent Kallus can get kicked off the boat immediately. You don't have the defense dice to get any benefit from it, and you already get a soft focus to crit at range 1 and 2. What he needs is rerolls, ideally through target locks to support Vessery. Like skeether said, Vessery either wants to shoot first or you want your wingman to have a way to get his own target lock mid combat, e.g. FCS. Tactician also only works in arc, and your decimator will fire a lot of out of arc shots, making him almost entirely worthless after the joust. The decimator just isn't a kiting ship, and imperials in general don't have a ship to really make that an option. You probably want a more solid side along jouster to pair well with him, and a strong flanker if points allow. You could probably fit some form of QD/Vessery and a striker or a budget Omega Leader. Or some kind of cheap bomber for an easy LRS carrier. That would be my recommendation at least.

So naturally, Vess needs a TL from someone else to feed his ability. But RAC doesn't really want to be TLing. But, if you give RAC Krennic and condition Vess, then Vess shoots Ion Cannon, strips a shield with the condition, maybe hits for 1 and an ion, then RAC gets a TL from the condition, then Vess shoots his second shot with Expertise and a new TL thanks to the TL RAC just got. Meanwhile, RAC can have Predator and his ability for plentiful rerolls on his own, and Kylo can use his action to really screw with people.

I've tried Lone Wolf Ryad with RAC and it flies well [wink]

This was my thought, but unfortunately doesn't work. Optimized prototype gives out a target lock after a primary attack, so the ion cannon wouldn't trigger it.
