Dengar + who?

By Quarrel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What's a good flight accompaniment for a 52 pt. Dengar? So far I've tried a pair of PS2 Kihraxzes with a spectacular lack of success. 5-health ships that fire last are just too easy to kill before they ever shoot. Hull upgrade doesn't really change that, and I don't have the points to run 3+.

Two TLT Ys?
Two generic Autothruster Starvipers?
Two HLC Scyks?
Three Harpoon Zs?

I have seen a bit of success with Dengar Thweek

Jumpmaster 5000: •Dengar (55)
Counter-Measures (3)
•Punishing One (12)
•Lone Wolf (2)
•Maul (3)
Glitterstim (2)

Starviper: •Thweek (38)
Autothrusters (2)
Starviper Mk.II (-3)
•Virago (1)
Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)
Fire-Control System (2)
Glitterstim (2)

Total: 93/100

I know it isn't the same Dengar your using but imo having to do green manover to get the target lock makes you to restricted.

I was in a similar situation, trying to figure out what fits the best. This is what I settled on, it's a lot of fun, and hits hard.

Boba Fett (Scum) — Firespray-31 39
Expertise 4
Inspiring Recruit 1
Engine Upgrade 4
Ship Total: 48
Dengar — JumpMaster 5000 33
Expertise 4
K4 Security Droid 3
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 52

In terms of tournament results, Dengar (Expertise, K4) combined with a Timewalk Asajj (Lone Wolf, Latts, 2x Glitterstim) is probably the best version of Dengar + Buddy list.

However, I had a bunch of fun with this the other day:

  • Dengar (Lone Wolf, Gonk, Experimental Interface, Burnout SLAM, Punishing One) 53
  • Guri (Push the Limit, Adv. Proton Torpedos, Autothrusters, Starviper Mk.II, Fire Control System, Scavenger Crane) 43

I actually got two APT shots with Guri (such a fun ship, although I know it should probably be something tougher and higher PS). And while it's not always the easiest ship to fly, Gonk/EI is a beast. Over a longer game, you can recover a lot of shields. I stole the Dengar build from Jeff Berling after playing against him when I was in Ohio a few months back, and he was flying it with Nym. He even ding'd me one with a post-move Genius drop. Seems like the kind of thing a lot of folks will have forgotten about.

  • Nym (VI, Autoblaster Turret, Harpoon Missile, Bomblet Generator, Havoc, Trajectory Simulator, Genius, Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips)

Thanks for the replies, all.

One thing I've noticed, though: these are all two-ship lists. How do you win when one of them dies and the other can't do more than 1 damage per turn to Poe / Miranda / R2D2 Norra or solo half your opponent's list?

Oh you'd be surprised how effective a big Scum ace can be at beating through someone like Poe/Miranda/Norra. They can't outshoot you (Except maybe Norra, but she's squishy), so just focus on outshooting them

Squishy? How do you figure? PTL / R2D2 Norra can mitigate 2 damage per turn minimum, and 2.625 average against a single attacker. (+1 shield from R2, push to TL + focus, roll 1 green when shot, spend TL to add an eyeball, spend focus to convert). Even if I can somehow fly Dengar out of her arcs and take a single focused or TLed shot against her every turn , she actually heals over time unless I'm usually at range 1. I have to get her to shoot me so I can double-tap.

If she it spending her TL/Focus to mitigate damage, she's not hitting worth $#!+. If she hits, she's hella squishy - someone like Dengar is okay with that

Still my favorite:

Dengar (Predator, Recon SPecialist, Punishing One)

Boba Fett (Veteran Instincts, Gunner, Engine Upgrade)
