My first local Team EPIC Tournament

Have not played EPIC yet but will be practicing over the next few weeks.

This is my idea for first build, was just hoping to get some advice on build.

I think your raider is far too expensive. I would aim for 160 points on the raider. Take a small swarm of ties (maybe 3 ps1 and howlrunner). Then an ace or two.

well the raider is costing 152 points, and with the build I was thinking I will only need to target lock once, weapons engineer will allow me to lock and keep two targets locked, Impetuous is going to allow me to not need to take target lock past the first one meaning I can focus on things like recovery and reinforce etc. I figured I would run it with two Alpha Class Star Wings with OS-1 Arsenal, and have 5 infinite harpoon missiles and look to alpha vessels off the board, harpoons also offer swarm control. Gunnery Teams to allow the Raider better land hits with the harpoons without having to spend target locks. Ordnance Experts on the Raider to support the Alphas and Guidance Chips on the Alphas to guarantee good hits, or at least this was idea anyway.

Per the Tournament Requirements, a list cannot contain more than 4 copies of any single Secondary Weapon or Elite upgrade, so that's not a legal half-list, and your partner couldn't bring Harpoons either. It's also worth noting that Huge ships can't receive conditions, so your Harpoons are "just" 4-dice attacks which don't spend a TL against an enemy huge ship. It's still good, but not as nuts as it could be.

Anyhow, Missile Raiders aren't the only way to go.

I copied the gist of this list from @Darth Meanie :

I added a few goodies (tactician and Thug Droids are great when making lots of attacks), but basically:

  • Raider (fore) (Quad Laser Cannons) (56)
  • Raider (aft) (Instigator, Tactician, Shield Technician, Quad Laser Cannons, Quad Laser Cannons, IG-RM Thug Droids, Optimized Generators) (75) (total Raider: 131 points)

Anyhow, there's at least one free Team slot which could be used to hold Ordnance Experts to help support your Gunboats. Switching one of the rear Quad Laser Cannons to Ion Cannon Battery might not be too bad, either... it'd add a good deal of range, but this Raider is a BEAST once it closes in. I had one of these toss out 7 stress in a single turn one round. Meanwhile, between Optimized Generator adding extra energy, Shield Technician preventing you from having to spend it all, and Instigator to regain one more shield when you recover, you'll usually be gaining a few shields and still able to double-tap with your Primary Weapon. The other thing which is nice: you don't have to worry about having Target Locks on ships you want to attack. Just open fire.

To that end, it might be worth upgrading the Nus to Rhos. I feel like getting up to 4 PS in Epic is pretty solid, since that'll put you at least equal to the natural PS of any epic ships out there. Being PS-killed stinks. I went with Deadeye (add also Extra Munitions?), but Crack Shot would also do decently, and combines better with the title. There would still be a few points to play with. Perhaps Tibanna Gas on the Raider, perhaps more Teams, perhaps going from Missile to Heavy Laser Cannon Rhos. 31 points gets a Trick Shot (lots of obstacles in Epic), HLC, Linked Batteries, Long-Range Scanners Rho, and that will have 4 or 5 dice attacks without worrying about reloads.
