Guesstimating costs of 2.0

By ScummyRebel, in X-Wing

Before anyone jumps on me, no this is not intended as a negative thread. Complainers will be shamed into leaving the thread ?

2.0 is an awesome concept, but once we are up to all 5 factions....

- A wave will be at least 5 ships (assuming 1/faction). This means that it will cost at least $100 per wave to play all factions, more if large or medium bases involved. For now, I’m assuming you are buying the expansions because we don’t have a model yet for “cards only please” (and eventually it’ll be new ship types too)

- ffg is promising an “aggressive schedule” in the Covenant interview. How often are waves is aggressive? Is it going to be like Legion releases monthly? Are we going to see 2-3 waves a year?

I am mostly processing trying to figure out what is the most viable long term plan, because I want to stay up on the game and enjoy the reborn flavor of my favorite game of choice. But I can’t be dropping $100+ a month or even every other month.

So, will you be going 1 faction? If so, how’d you pick that one? 2-3 factions?

the actual cost of playing is $90, go in with one faction

you maybe add a faction at $50 per wave, if they keep releasing old ships in new expansion packs and if you feel you've exhausted all your conversion kit options after untold weeks of playing

if they release new ships (such as from the new movies or tv shows) then that's another story

Pretty sure that’s inevitable. We have a brand new Disney cartoon coming, plus episode 9. Plus any possible Solo related merchandise.

Faction specialization will be a lot easier and probably more common this time around. Take a look at Legion, there are many who split 2 core sets and are focusing either on rebels or empire. You will see more of this focus with X-Wing I think.

They have stated that upgrades that are not faction specific (think something like Proton Torps) will now be available to all factions through their own faction kits. So you don't need to buy the "auto-thruster" or "intensity" expansion.

This, in theory, will make the game cheaper as it expands.

ALSO, keep in mind that only wave 1 has been promised to be in the conversion kit and not require new blister purchases. Wave 2 (lets say, an A-wing and interceptor) will have new cards in those packs. But, they have also said they will be delivering the new cards/cardboard in a way that will not for you to buy a new model. They just don't know what that will look like yet.

I do plan on getting at least one of each faction conversion to start. Where I go from there, I can't say as I have no idea. Chances are... I will go where there are A-wings.

I think you will see more and more people sticking to just 1 or 2 factions to keep costs down. Especially since upgrades and things won't be locked behind specific ships anymore. Personally I will probably just stick to rebel/resistance stuff. I have a decent amount of imperial but i don't know if i am going to convert it.

I'm estimating $250.

I don't think waves will continue to one ship per faction.

Two ships per faction, currently

That's a VERY aggressive pace I can see them maintaining until at least all the "classic" ships are reprinted

Then I think they really should go back to 1 ship a faction mac. Gotta actually playtest their ****, this time around

possible that they will alternate with factions. Wave 2 will be First Order and Resistance. I would not be surprised if we will see a new wave every month for the first year to rerelease most of the old ships and add some new ships as well.

Gonna run bout tree fiddy.

From what I figured at a minimum I'm going to need to buy right off the bat is 1 conversion kit each faction, plus a new core starter. My main opponent is my son at home, so we'll need to get more than one faction playable right from the get-go. I will need 1 more kit for each faction to fully convert all my version 1 ships. Then I have to worry about First Order and Resistance, I have a decent amount of ships but I much prefer original trilogy stuff so they can wait if need be. Then one epic ship each when they get around to that. Ugh.

A FLGS here is planning to offer discount deals for those buying multiple conversion kits, however I'm willing to bet they will still be cheaper if I order online.

While I've been told the conversion kits will include new pilots, I remain skeptical after seeing the 2.0 T-65 unboxing. It doesn't make sense FFG would include Blue Squadron Escort and Thane Kyrell in a kit to upgrade last edition's stuff. I'm sure they're rather sell us new stuff and new pilots would drive that. I'd love to be wrong on this, and i hope I am.
