command card play sequence

By Dr Tan, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Hi,

Are there general rules for playing command cards during the Apply Modifiers step of an attack?

Can the attacker apply additional modifiers after the defender has applied his? E.g. attacker plays one or more command cards such that there are sufficient damages to defeat the target figure. Defender then plays Onar's Get Down ability to apply one block. Can attacker further play the Positioning Advantage card to apply one more damage?

In other words, can both players play command cards in a back and forth manner during an attack step?

Command cards have the same timing conflict resolution as any ability that has the same trigger. See Timing, page 2, and Conflicts page 9 of the RRG.

The full story: Ability Resolution Order During Attacks also has command cards listed in their categories. :D

Each ability specifies a timing which must be followed. Even abilities with "during an attack", "while attacking/defending" usually have a specific step in which they trigger depending on which aspect of the attack they modify. Following the attack steps is also important in general. Also note that total damage that the figure suffers is only calculated during step 7, and is suffered once. But, read the Attack chapter from RRG, or my link.

No. Attacker plays all his cards first, then the defender plays all his cards. (Short version of what a1bert said.)

Well, attacker does not play all cards first, just all that affect the current step of the attack before the defender.

@a1bert: As we are talking about the Apply Modifiers step only, I think, this is obvious.

Thanks, folks.
