Thank You: (Yet Another) X-Wing Miniatures Squad Builder

By BDrafty, in X-Wing

For years, whenever I needed to build a new squad, I've gone to (Yet Another) X-Wing Miniatures Squad Builder . The site is free, and has all of the hallmarks of someone's passion project. This has been a great site to use while I was learning the game (and all of the cards and pilots) and has even been useful later on to help keep track of point costs in 1st edition's era of point reduction upgrade cards.

With the announcement of second edition came the news of an official squad builder that FFG will provide for free. This squad builder has the distinction of providing the only available source for the point costs of ships and upgrades. That being said, I'm not sure if the developer of YAXWMSB is going to continue to support the site; let alone develop a redundant version to FFG's.

If the site goes the way of the first edition, then let me just extend the developer(s) a genuine 'thank you' on behalf of a grateful community of X-wing players. You provided a needed service to a very special group of people who are all in love with a goofy hobby.

Update for 8/6/2018

2.0 version is out!

cheer!

Thanks very much for every third party that has put blood sweat and tears into V1.

Hear, hear!

I agree - thanks to everyone.

YASB is the one I used for most of my X-Wing squad planning. Maybe the squad builder site people can find ways to stay relevant after 2.0. Depends on what all squad building in 2.0 will be like, I guess.

I hope it doesn't go away. I'm sure there will still be a lot of people wanting to play Vassal games and such, in both 1st and 2nd edition formats, and I doubt that FFG will make their app easily compatible with that.

I realized this morning that we're also likely seeing the end of being able to try out unreleased content through Vassal. FFG can show us every piece of cardboard in an expansion, but it's going to be meaningless if we can't assign point values. I doubt those will be available before the official release dates.

Actually, that can work in our favor if Vassal has a point cost "bidding" system for new cards.

What's the cost of that upgrade? What SHOULD the cost be for that upgrade? Lets try it out, and see how close FFG comes the first time around. They may even steal our data.

Yes, thanks YASB. You are may fav squad builder.

Having said that, I believe it will still be used beyond the 2.0 launch, particularly for folks who want to continue 1.0 via casual games or some kind of Legacy League.

YASB we still need you!

I'm glad he's able to recover his FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOMM

Thank you Geordan
