Contractor B gets the nod to build the equipment.... mediocre design become ok to good... it costs an arm and a leg with the added pain of having to send it back to the contractor to repair when it brakes instead of fixing it in theatre by the guys and girls using it....
By that logic we should be using FABULOUS Swords instead of guns. In addition the TIE/Ln was NOT meeting the requirements of the war, which is why the Empire was REPLACING it with the objectively better and not significantly more expensive TIE/In. If I was a FO starfighter designer or contractor I would want the ship to be based off of something with a good track record especially if the FO is supposed to be an elite organization, that means no swarms. If price was a consern the TIE/In was already a production model and if that's too much then how can you afford to upgrade, and if X-Wing TT is any indication the /In is better than the /FO. It's like instead of making jet planes the Nazis went back to biplanes
