Couldn't help but notice that this seemed to be more platitudes than actual strategic advice.

Well, you know.

Crane.

Here's the Card Strategy section of the article.

Strategic Advice:

Talk, smile, talk some more, praise.

Then smile again, a short pause, then talk, then smile again but cover your mouth with a fan.

Then..

GM: Time!

”Oh look at the time, an hour passed by so quickly, I think I got a modified win but would appreciate if you conceded.” *smiles*

I have seen someone do something like that and the oponent, didn't concede because of it.

I have done the above.... and funny enough to another crane player who had no idea what happened...

On the flip side we have mostly new people and i spend most games teaching the new people so we don't get far anyway

Without getting too in the weeds, the strategy is fairly simple:

Cautious Scout, honor a bunch of dudes, dump fate on Guest of Honor.

And this is why Karmic Twist now exists.

I look forward to the Crane deck that is bizarrely immune to Karmic Twist.

The original request for articles didn't explicitly specify strategy discussion. It was phrased to us as a recruitment article. Something to get new players interested in the clans that best fit their style.

I was the first one to write an article (and my article was shared as a basis with a few others via the Jade Throne guys prior to release) and I chose to weave story/theme with strategy because I felt that was the best way to get new players interested: relating the mechanics in game to the story and theme of the clan.

Although this article doesn't have as much strategy discussion, I think it's still a good reflection of what makes the Crane Crane. It just oozes elitism in the best possible way :).

Always be craning :)

The point is... Crane still wins... even if it loses.

No, that one is the Scorpion... although it will be more like “Against Scorpion, you always lose, even if you win”

Ha.

Fair enough!

@Kakita Onimaru

I very much enjoyed your article on the Crane Clan (sorry, I just got around to reading it). Although very different than the Crab Clan, the Crane has always been a close second favorite of mine. It was Doji Kurohito on the front of the Diamond Edition starter (?) deck that made me take a chance and got into L5R way back then. For new players and those with no prior knowledge of the different clans, your article really captures what the Crane are all about. Well done.

Glad you liked it :)
