getting more out of your conversion kits (casual play only)

By ficklegreendice, in X-Wing

I don't know why it took me this long to put this together,

so, in x-wing 2.0, some ships have the exact same dial as in 1.0

and FFG has to provide you with FAR more bases and cards than ships, due to all the pilots available

Therefore, if you can successfully navigate a more limited base/pilot selection, you can field far more of a certain ship than the kit would otherwise let you

only place where people would be anal enough to stop you would be in sanctioned, competitive events

Fang is the same

Viper is almost the same (they buffed it with green blue 2-banks ?!)

Not enough of the khirax to tell

Ys are also almost the same (buffed with green blue 1-banks)

etc.

Notably, the X is not the same (got legit T-rolls) as are the spray and advance (seems t-rolls are a theme)

absolutely. and for home-table games, if the dial is the same....the old stuff should match up 'good enough' to play. You can't put your TIE swarm into a tournament, but at least then you can play with it casually. until we find out alittle bit more about what mechanics work with the new bases, we'll see on those. right now Barrel roll is a big thing, but that should be able to be worked around with old bases in casual games.

But it *is* the same as the T-70 current dial (except the 3 straight is white and the 2 banks are blue). So as long as you're comfortable with remembering different colors, or having a maneuver reference, or a sharpie to change it, you can use a T70 v1.0 dial for a T65 v2.0 dial.

Nice for my TIE:ln swarm :D

use a blue highlighter/sharpie on your 2-banks ?

Personnaly, I have too much of some ships for one conversion kit, but I will have lots of leftover also (like I have 1x E-wing, K-wing, Rebel TIE, YTs...). So I plan to photocopy some of the material I'll lack (like X-wing dials for my other 4 T65s) and then glue it on the unused dials and base cardboards. Then a little bit of varnish and that will do nicely imo.

Plus for the cardboard insert, they're all pretty much the same these days. For a casual game, is anyone really going to care that you slotted a Y Wing cardboard for your X Wing ship? They have the same arcs and details, and who really looks at the statline from the cardboard? I would recommend putting someone with the same pilo... initiative value as whomever you're representing and you're good to go. And if you need another pilot card, just grab either the old one, or a new one of a different pilot for stats reference.

yes, that's another good point to bring up

the new bases only have initiative #, pilot name and a little ship icon (plus faction color). they no longer display your statline nor action-bar

though to bring up another point, limited quantity of mobile-arc indicators may be a concern if running y-wing spam

Let's just say a lot of TIE/v1s are getting TIE fighter models.
