How are Critical Strikes handled?

This is a change because, in the Beta, you started to take critical damage after capping out Fatigue.

Yeah, I did a double-take because I expected you to receive 'exhausted' when fatigue reaches Endurance, but it's definitely 'incapacitated'.

Given it takes four critical strikes to hit incapacitated, it seems like fatigue is a much more reliable way of taking out characters (mooks aside, as a critical strike takes one of those out in one blow)

Even with a katana, the critical strike gets you 'bleeding' which can quickly lead to incapacitated through fatigue loss.

Talking of which... Exhausted condition doesn't make any sense. As it is you are just unable of removing strife. But you unmask and voila! Solved. So unmasking seems to be the remedy for a long night of watch or a rough walk through the mountains f. E. . Unmasking and exhausted should have nothing to do with each other. Exhausted should give increased TNs until you get some rest, like it did in previous editions.

Exhausted prevents PCs from recovering Strife and Fatigue at the end of each scene. Thematically the player can still perform an Unmasking to let out all of the built up emotions. And a player can still cancel strife rolls with opportunity rolls. Unmasking is not really a remedy as the character still carries the Exhausted condition until they get a full nights sleep. And even then the Unmasking still has to make sense thematically in the situation. A Lion player whose Unmasking is to challenge someone to a duel wouldn't really do that to one of their allies in mid-hike with no one else around. They would still have to carry the negative effects of being compromised and not be able to keep any dice checks that contain Strife results.

You're not bound to only one way of unmasking. That part of the character sheet is supposed to be indicative of a usual unmasking for a character, but they can unmask in anyway the player wants for the situation.

Alternatively, mid-hike: Other samurai with the party slips on an incline; Lion: "KAMI HELP ME IF YOU DON'T KEEP YOUR FEET UNDER YOU I WILL CUT THEM OFF!"

Challenge the Mountain.
