X-wing Second Edition Announcement-General Discussion

By JediConsular4hire, in X-Wing Organized Play

Since the other thread is strictly a Q&A thread. I thought I’d make a general discussion thread for the community. What are your thoughts on this move by FFG?

Personally, I am a little frustrated by it. I would have much rather seen new starships and upgrades or future waves containing ships from the clone wars era, but without changing the rules of the game. My group is considering ignoring the second edition changes to continue playing the game we love, but that would mean we would be running on a now unsupported format.

Have to agree.

Seems like a move designed to soak more money out of us.

All of our 1st edition stuff is now worthless for tournament play, unless we want to pony up $50 per faction for conversion kits. Most of us have a lot of money invested in X-wing, for that to now be worthless (without conversion kits) does not make me happy

I'm with you-I will continue to play 1st edition.

Out of curiosity, what squads do two you usually fly?

Meta chasing has been extremely expensive, especially faction jumping for upgrade cards. hitting a reset button should have been done 2 years ago, when the card pool was still managable. But better late than never- the changes presented will be a massive boon to tournament play.

I'm a huge fan of this change. The game really needed a reboot. It had got too unwieldy and was getting really hard for new players to learn.

I think they've done a great job at fixing a lot of the problems with the game.

I think the conversation kits go a long way of bringing your current investment into the new game though I'd love to see a release of these by ship because there's several that I won't have enough of and that is for lists I fully (eg 3 defenders and TIE swarms).

And everything you currently have isn't worthless. You have a complete set of rules and ships for a completely valid game. You can still play. You just can't play in tournaments (unless someone in your area decides to run a v1 tournament). I play almost exclusively in casual play and if our group weren't keen on the release then we'd just keep playing v1. There's a time of content and lists you can still run there.

An alternative view is that for a couple of hundred bucks, the huge amount of ships you've already bought can now be used to play 2 games.

I believe I said: "everything I have is worthless for tournament play".

I fully intend to go on playing X wing V1 as stated in my first post.

I also play completely in casual play as well. a friend has been wanting me to join in tournament play, which I was considering doing. But not now as it would cost me $40+ $50 per faction to convert.

Now I agree some changes were needed & I like the idea of adding the force & love the changes to the T-65 X wing. But I wish they had started this much sooner than wave 14. So many people have so much invested in X-wing; to have to convert now is quite a burden.

Now I agree with you there. It seems to me they have waited to a very late date to make so big a change.
