Where Are We?

By Darth Meanie, in X-Wing Epic Play

Since the 2E app will "not let you build illegal squads" does that mean Epic is not even supported for awhile?

Where are we? Where we've always been - right here.

Limbo?

Purgatory?

Lost (in Space!!!)?

Or just having fun with our toys?

We are playing 1e til they remember us. Which is ok. Because getting enough empire conversions to run my 8 gunboats would get me shot by the wife. So.,I will convert to standard and play 1e epic while slowly stealthily spending more money on overpriced cardboard for overpriced plastic I have too much of.

Where are you quoting this from? Are you sure the app won't let you build illegal squads?

Granted, I don't know that the new 2E app will include Huge ships until they're released...

as I said in another post on this board.

We are still in 1st edition. :(

It’s true. The 2e app will automatically install on all of your devices. It will then hunt down third party 1e squad builders on your device and delete them and also block access to 1e squad builder websites. Then it will mutate your device into a mobile shredder, find all you 1e cards to destroy them. Also all pens, paper and calculators in the vicinity will be disposed of by your device. Finally, your device will transform into Bor Gullet, who will search your mind for all knowledge and memories of 1e and wipe them.

Pleasant dreams ?

It's in the FAQ.

And what I meant is that squads are only "legal" at 200 points. So if you blow off your useless Huge ships for the moment and try to play large scale 2.0, will the app let you even build an "oversized tournament illegal" list.

It's fine. 2nd edition doesn't exist for epic. So no impact on your list building in the near term.

Nothing I've seen so far would indicate that players won't have total control over what lists they build using the app. The only thing they've said is that they can control the point cost for ships and upgrades, and they (or FLGS) can specify special rules for tournaments.

What List-building app ever cuts you off at a certain number of points? There might be a warning that tells us that the list isn't following certain requirements but that would be it.

Edit: Here's the part of the FAQ that makes me think we'll have way more freedom than people are saying: " You can even use the X-Wing squad builder app to create your own custom games if you’re playing at home or running your own tournament in a local store!"

Sounds like we'll be able to control some of what is 'legal' for our own games. So I can run an event where only X-Wings and Tie fighter lists are allowed. Sounds pretty cool!

God, if the app restricts us to 200 point builds, I'm going to pitch a FIT. I can't remember the last time I made a 100 point list or played a 100 point game. And if the app is basically required (because building a list by cross referencing a PDF is going to be a pain) then where does that leave people that enjoy non-standard games?

That will leave us in the "Adapt, Improve & Survive" mode. I am a little surprised that even today Epic players think "I only own one copy of xxx upgrade card so I am restricted to..."

No idea about the future Epic 2.0. I hope we will obtain more models but about rules and upgrades... Build your own.

Um if you want a 400 or 600 point list just build a bunch of smaller lists. Or maybe they will only let you build one list, then you have to fly it, record your result and destroy it before you can make another..... Time to panic......

That's definitely the impression I got. My guess is that the "no illegal lists" point is just advertising about how the app will help you keep your points to whatever limit you set and ensure that you don't have upgrades on ships that can't support them and stuff like that. Personally, I probably end up flying an illegal list once a month or so as I miscount points or add a Modification to a ship, forgetting that it already had one, so having an app help track that stuff for me and warning me when I'm being an idiot will be rather helpful.

FFG isn't going to want to stifle any casual play for their game, so the more I've thought about it the more I'm convinced there will be a 'casual' mode where you can do whatever you want with points. If I want to play an epic 1,000 point game across three mats, FFG will want me to be able to do that because it means I own a fortune in ships or have tons of friends with ships.

There's no way they're going to stifle that kind of play!

I dunno, sometimes it feels like they forget that anything other than tournament style games even exist.

I am hoping they do something with the Threat system they made for narrative play. It would seem like a missed opportunity if all threat was used for is for app-less tournament plays.

I mean I have no disillusion that Epic will take some time to get into 2.0. Also that includes new huge ships for Resistance and First Order but we will have to wait for that new cartoon Resistance to come out. I have see others trying to merge the two with all small-large ships using the app and huge ships instead of having an epic point limit have a standard point limit using 1st edition upgrades and cards. You could say a new 250/150 point system (250 second edition ships, 150 huge ship) allotment. It isn't like many of the 2.0 changes are going to have a profound impact. I guess you could make jam action to the new 2.0 jam action and call it good.

On the run. Summer Time... more free time to play Double Epic .

I did not purchase Legion, but one of my fellows did. Combined game... Planetary Assault, Imps invades desertic planet. Ships near the Battle Zone can skip their Combat Phase and strafe or bomb.

On one table 600 pts Epic play. On the other, 2 Legion Core Sets. We are veeery green playing Legion so quite time consuming. But interesting.

Imperial players focused on whipping out the Rebel's flagship, CR 90 "Heavy Versión" ("Combat Refit", extra Hull and Shield, Aditional Hardpoint Slot to mount modified Quad Laser, point defence rng 1)

Bomber Y Wings dropped accurate Proton Bombs. Hit hard the stormtroppers and "killed" Vader.

Love Star Wars. Cheers.
