Boba Fett in the Firespray is going to dominate with his MEDIUM base, his native boost, and his 1-turns.

I am positive that many players will be selling off their ships and never playing competitive x-wing again, after discovering they 1) Can't afford all the upgrade kits and 2) Don't have access to apps to build lists, because there are no points costs on the cards.
Absolutely inexcusable greed on the part of FFG.
I'm out.
I'm positive it's going to be a great time for new players to pick up collections for cheap because of doom sayers. I'm positive that in the long run most people will only need a core and conversion kit for their favorite faction then moving on from there. I'm positive this will bring back a lot of players that left due to wombo combos and turret abuse. I'm positive that more games will be done before time is called.

That's me! I'm coming back because of 2nd Edition and this time I'm going all in rather than just playing super casually. I'm super hyped and can't wait for September. 2nd Edition has fixed all the things that kept me from committing to this game previously. I'm stunned at the improvements I'm seeing from the info we have so far.
And you're right. I am getting a core and one conversion kit. This game is moving from a "collect them all" philosophy to a "pick one or two factions" philosophy just like most of the other tabletop miniature games and I personally have no problem with that. In fact one of the reasons I stopped myself from getting into X-Wing too heavily was specifically being forced to buy ships in factions I had no interest in just to use ships I had already bought. I'm elated at the changes.
For me the big positives are:
-Being able to stick to only the factions I care about
-Turrets not breaking the maneuvering aspect of the game
-Easy & quick re-balancing through the app without having to wait years for yet more cardboard to keep track of
-Quick start cards to play with more casual friends (this is more important than it first seems)
-Entering the game when everyone else is still discovering everything too
-For me the conversion kits are a great deal, I'll be catching up on years of upgrade cards I've missed out on for a decent price
