Just think of Second Edition as a new game

By Shadow345, in X-Wing

Because it is a new game.

And buy into it with your own personal approach you apply to getting into any other new game.

"Just rebuy what you already have, Just don't think of it as rebuying what you already have".

Fly casual.

A new game that will start to lose how popular it was. I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of version 1 tournaments for people.

eh, you have to rebuy if you want in

course, those $50 would normally get you...a core set and a ship expansion?

...no, that's $60

Yeah I get it's a new game, the redesign was clearly needed. I mean the FAQ's were a mess to go through, and it's obvious they didnt really plan on X-Wing being as huge as it has become. So 2.0 is not a bad thing, everyone was wanting a refresh so unfortunately this is how it has to be. People will whine even when they get the things they wanted so badly.

Im not terribly mad about the conversion kits, it's inconvenient but I like that I can gradually get my collection current and Im sure once they've been out for a couple months, you'll see the prices drop down a bunch, especially on sites like Amazon. I also like that everything in the wave 1 ships will be offered in the conversion kits, that way people won't have to rebuy so many things right off the bat. Im sure Wave 2 and other re-releases will not be included so thus the re-buying will begin...

Here's what I dont like:

-Need for new core set / new damage decks not available for sole purchase or in conversion kits-- if they didnt change the maneuver templates (adding a line down the middle doesnt change how they're used) and dice, veteran players have no reason to buy the new core set other than for the decks and maybe the asteroid tokens. Especially veteran scum players who have everything from before and won't even use 90% of whats in the box. That feels like a cash grab to me when veterans will already be spending $50+ to bring their collection up to speed.

-Price increases on ships-- a $5 increase for the small ships is kind of steep, I mean $20 for a TIE fighter? Come on... almost any kind of generic TIE fighter doesnt move at my FLGS until they've been sitting there collecting dust on the shelf for months and are knocked down a few bucks.

-No "new" ships for Wave 1-- I know we're getting Saw's Renegades and the TIE Reaper which will have V1 and V2 stuff but I think they could have made Wave 1 more appealing to the veterans that are pushing back against V2 by releasing a new ship to the game. Maybe a Naboo starfighter or something that the community has been wanting.

TLDR: I think I'll be waiting for the release and to see how it goes over with the community before getting on board. Probably wait until Wave 2 is announced even to see if it's going to be straight re-releases for awhile or if new ships will come. I understand that for any game that gets a new edition, there will be a cost involved for the player, its just how it works. But to make old players buy a core set just for some cards and a little bit of cardboard... especially when they'd already be spending $50 minimum to update their collection... that just doesn't sit with me. Id rather put that $40 towards the new X wing and Fang fighter expansions.
