Now that Silencers are in a separate faction, just put out Avengers and I'll be content.
Opening statement needs more backing evidence.
As for the opening question, the answer I believe is yes. A new addition will catch some eyes and they’ll take the plunge. If you look at the forums, you’ll see quite a few people who have been out of the game for a bit excited to jump back in. There is, of course, some players who will exit the game now, for various reasons. That’s the nature of putting out new additions. In the end, I expect this change to be a net positive, but we will have to see.
For starters they've given themselves the ability to fix by refinement, instead of design. Which means we don't need to see an endless stream of fix packs coming out. They can just adjust the points cost of a given item instead. Also, with five factions it's easier to balance. Some upgrades and pilots will be Resistance/First Order only so FFG won't have to worry about how those pilots will interact with Rebel or Imperial pilots. And importantly, with the app they've got an easy way to balance things both for competitive play AND casual play. A Proton Torpedo might cost 4 for competitive play, but 2 in an Epic match, as an example. And it might cost 6 points on a dedicated torpedo boat, but only 3 on a less optimised ship.
