New Re-Release Blister Packs Will Contain Cards Not in Conversion Kit

By DesignXception, in X-Wing

I think they can easily avoid a forced cross-faction buy by just having all broadly-useable wave upgrades in each blister from that wave.

But we can’t reasonably expect to never have new content. We’re going to have to buy new ships.

If that is the case, since I only play casual I will proxy the living **** out of everything. The answer to “will I rebuy models I already own” is When **** freezes over!!!”

Yeah, they tried to do that initially, didn;'t work out too well. The only way I can see them doing that is if they develop the upgrade cards for each wave and then just duplicate them for each faction. so if a wave has 1 ship for each faction, each of those ships will have the exact same (non-faction specific) upgrade cards, in which case those of us who buy everything are going to end up with a lot of copies of each card.

I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. It can be a pain having an upgrade you want to use across multiple squads but only having the one copy. I like to take more than one list to game night but I also prefer to pull my lists and have them ready to go. Having the same cards in each expansion allows you to make a Imp list and a Rebel list and not have to shift cards between them. I like to take lists that I can teach some new arrival with.

This also lets folks be "faction pure" with their purchases while not falling behind the "meta" upgrades. It likely also removes a significant barrier to entry for new players.

Duplicate.

how about we just wait a couple months to see more of the contents of the conversion kits and blisters before we jump off a cliff...

We are not jumping off a cliff but just asking very valid questions - which they have encouraged us to do by starting a thread for those questions. They are also encouraging us to start pre-ordering straight away and it would be nice to know what you money is actually going to get you or not get you if that is the case.

I don't see that happening, at least until there are blisters with brand new ships.

2.0 is a long-term move, so I don't see them making such a long-term move only to follow it up with a short term one (financially speaking). From my perspective, their goal was to re-energize the playerbase which means making the conversion as painless as possible. They can (and would expect) a dip living off the conversions (also why you stagger them), new players, and those that love the resculpts. But in the end if the move extends the life of the game another 5-10 years it pays it back tenfold.

I have faith that the re releases will NOT contain anything new that is not in the conversions. New ships will.

In addition, it is being reported (I don’t know the original source) that someone from FFG said that if/when 2.0 repack of old ships include cards not in the conversion kits that they will do “mini conversion kits” for veterans so they won’t have to buy extra models

Right, they'll just have to buy mini conversion kits. After they already sank several hundred dollars into other conversion kits.

It depends on just what's in the kits for me. I'm not a completionist. If there's some new cards with the re-release of the a-wing or whatever, I don't necessarily need to have them. I just hope the conversion kit isn't lacking so much that it makes me feel like I have to buy more conversion kits to have a good experience.

Well, if in 8 months they start producing re-packs with new cards and put an entire waves new cards in a $15 pack so people don't have to buy 2-3 $20 packs with miniatures (and maybe cards) they don't want, I'm fine with that.

The conversion kits contain "over a hundred upgrade cards" each.

If the re-releases of existing ships contain pilots and upgrades that aren't in the conversion kits, then they're not really conversion kits at all, are they? FFG representatives said repeatedly in various media from yesterday's announcement that existing players will get everything in the conversion kits, except the models, necessary to bring those ships into 2.0. Forcing existing players to also buy re-releases of ships they already own in order to get cards that aren't in the conversion kits is a deal breaker for me. I'm willing to forgive the mistakes of the past and accept this new direction by spending a fair amount of money to update my existing dozens of ships, but I'd draw the line at being asked to re-buy ships I already bought because they put a couple of new cards in the box. Save the new cards for new ships, we all know they're coming (probably sooner rather than later).

This is troubling to me. It makes me wonder what the true cost of upgrading current collections into 2.0 is going to be. I don't want to be nickel and dimed for $15 every wave to get cards because I don't want to buy a fifth B-Wing. The re-releases should be for new players and those who want to buy them for the new models or to add another ship to their collection.

Team Covenant is a very reputable site and those guys have the inside track with FFG ....I doubt they will make this statement without be pretty certain on the facts.

The interpretation is wrong, not the facts.

Forcing existing players

Remember that no one is forcing you to buy anything. ☺️

From what we've been told, the "replacement" waves will contain nothing that the conversion kits don't already have, so just relax.

Have you ever bought an Ace pack? Because that is what this is. a 20$ (or 5$ if you don't want the models!) Ace pack.

I think it is wave one won't, but wave two might (not even certain, it might be all new ships, but hey, got to cover my bases).
