Is this not what the forums have cried for for years? And now the same group is crying about the cost for it. Was it supposed to be free?

You bought a product from a business, and you had a lot of fun with it, now the same business is offering you a new, potentially more fun way to play, and they're evil.

"How dare you spend a year developing/manufacturing this and not sell it for even cheaper."

"Why doesn't the box have exactly how many b wings I bought??"

Being frustrated at a mechanic, tournament structure, unbalanced gamestate, those are fair to argue, because you bought in with expections of that being continued or maintained (Maybe). But please don't be insulting towards a company or individuals when discussing their new product, because it's fair to say this is a new product with backwards compatible parts.

anyway, I do believe there are some legitimate grievance ($50 seems like a lot if they're not including templates and a damage deck). I just don't understand why people would immediately jump in with $250 worth of conversion

no way in **** are you going to justify that purchase with enough games for at least...well, a **** long time. there's just WAY too much stuff

I think people need to calm down a bit. You have 4 months to save your money up for this. If it's that important to you, stop complaining and find a way.

I always hoped they'd do something like this, but never thought I'd see it happen. A conversion kit is pretty amazing, I'm super happy all my plastic gets to see new life in a more streamlined game.

Agreed. These are meant to fit our full collections that we didn't buy all at the same time.

And I wish we didn't have to buy a core just for the damage deck and templates. That could've been elsewhere easily. Looking at it overall, might be simpler for new players?

well they weren't adverse to copying content

the standalone ship packs advertise new upgrades (ie ones not repackaged from 1.0) that can also be found in the conversion pack.

I'm not sure how massive this $50 box is going to be, wonder if they couldn't have just shoved a damage deck + set of templates in there

You're starting off with a flawed assumption. Every time a 2.0 idea has been floated, there have been many subfactions of X Wing players who have variously championed the idea, poo-poo'ed it, ranted at the very notion, moaned about the potential cost, etc etc.

I look at it this way: They are probably going to be reprinting a lot of the original waves with 2.0 compatibility. Between the ships I own and the conversion kits, I may be able to take a long vacation from buying X-Wing expansions after the 2.0 release, until FFG starts releasing truly new ships.

I am SO game for this! Buying the conversion kits, the new core (I wanna replace my static X-Wings and I need to replace 2 broken TIE Fighters anyway) and 2 extra X-Wing 2.0 expansions... because I need all my X-Wings to have flappy wings. After Wave 1, I'll probably scour 2nd party sites or part out upgrade kits to get the upgrades for the extra ships I have in my collection. I have more than what comes in 1 upgrade kit, but not enough to justify 2 upgrade kits per faction.

AMEN. This is just a GAME....a LUXURY item.... not a necessity. If you don't have the necessary disposable income to participate then you should not be concerned with playing and you should reprioritize your prioritizes. FFG owes us nothing, they are a company out to make profit plain and simple. If they don't they won't exist. They need to pay their staff for development costs, actual manufacturing costs are minimal in comparison. FFG offered us X-Wing 1.0 and you chose to buy into it and play. No one is coming to your house to take your current X-wing collection away. Now there is a version 2.0 which is a new game for all intents and purposes. It's your choice whether you wish to or more importantly can afford financially to collect and play this new version. There is no entitlement in life and nothing lasts forever. If you believe that, you are in for severe disappointment in your life.

I've been wanting an updated version since Jumpmasters released.

I will be buying the conversion kits and a new starter the day of release.

This announcement is like Christmas morning to me.

The entitlement .... well that is the internet. At first, the internet was for porn, until every hurt themselves, then the testosterone levels dropped and the internet was for cat videos, until everyone got a cat, now that everyone gets abused by their pet and hates themselves, they spread that hate on the internet.

Really, did anyone expect any other reaction other than hate regardless of what they announced?

What I love is those saying that they need to buy 2-3 conversion kits for each faction and that is way out of their price range.

If your collection is big enough to need that many you are dropping that much money every wave anyways.

I am going to need 2x kits for each faction, and have a massive collection. anything I need more than 2 kits worth I will trade for. It's not really going to cost me more than what I spend on a wave release anyways. I thought it was very well done to limit the cost of converting over. Most players I know have much smaller collections than me and will need 1 to 3 kits total to convert.

I can understand the hesitant nature of the cost for people on fixed budgets, but if you just look at it as a new wave being released in 5-6months that you need to save $50 for to get started it's really not that bad. I am not too sure how all these people on extremely tight budgets (apparently) managed to get these massive collections that require so many upgrade kits to begin with.

Look, I'm excited for 2.0. I think the game needs it. But let's be honest about the massive sticker shock and upfront costs.

It'll take two conversion sets to get a lot of fairly common lists like 3 Auzitucks, 3 Defenders, and 3 Starvipers, while there are ships like Decimators and Quadjumpers listed as 3x copies instead of 2x like many more popular ships. So a lot of what most folks want to play will require multiple kits. And then there will be Resistance/First Order conversions in the next wave, and the need to get a new damage deck from a core set. At minimum, one of each conversion and a core set is ~$190 MSRP, and a lot of players could be looking at another ~$250 in conversions, if indeed there are separate Resistance/FO and folks need two of each.

That's over $400 in *just cardboard and resources* to use ships we already own.

I want it and I'm glad it's happening. It's still a considerable chunk of money.

Also, it's a large lump-sup, upfront cost. Collections are often built a few ships at a time. Grab a gunboat or two to start off. Add a Sheathipede a few weeks later. Oh, this Bomber is on sale. The wave adds up over time, but that's not how things start. Initial outlay is relevant, even if total costs over time are similar.

While I agree with most of what you said its really not smart to assume the "fairly common lists" will be common anymore in a 2.0 environment that has to be the absolute worst reason to decide the amount of each ship in the conversion since most things are being re-worked the common lists may become rarely played. For all we know a 6x quad jumper list may be the new go-to list. I for one am glad the cheaper ships have more copies regardless of there popularity because I own and use multiple copies of them.

Because getting price gouged and having to pay around $100 dollars to simply play 4 X-wings again isn't really "entitled."

I plan on buying just the 3 basic conversion kits and NO MORE. After that, I can either choose to fly another ship if I don't have the card or I can just get the one card I need off ebay. Also, could careless about the new trilogy ships. Never cared for any of them anyways.

Okay, now for the one thing that is going to really burn me, is that in the year or two to come as these old ships get reprinted in the 2.0 format, they may come with new pilot cards not in the conversion kit and you'll need to rebuy the old ships to get the new stuff. It will be a slow bleed. but I don't see them not doing that. Hopefully the models will receive enough of an update or at least an alt paint scheme to justify buying yet another ship.

Fair enough.

I'd still really rather 3x Defenders or 3 Gunboats rather than 3x Decimators, particularly because almost no one has 3x Decimators, since you can't fit more than 2 into a standard 1.0 list.

It might be interesting to see a TAP swarm finally work, though.

Just buy the new stuff bit by bit not all at once.

It's like saying "I own fallout 3 therefore I should get fallout 4 for free". Yeah, it is entitlement. 2.0 is a newish game and nothing is stopping you from just playing 1.0. There is sticker shock there, granted, but you are buying something of value. If it isn't of that much value to you, don't buy it or wait for a sale.

No one is happy about ponying up the cash even if some of us are happy about the game getting improved (hopefully).
