Jedi Star prep/recruitment thread

By Tramp Graphics, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I am restarting the mixed level TFA/TLJ era campaign and recruiting people for it. I'm looking for at least five to seven players , with at least three willing to split/alternate GM duties.

As before, each player needs two characters :

  • One, a native Force and Destiny Starting XP character, built by RAW. These will be training to become a new generation of Jedi.
  • One 1500-2000 XP "master level" character from any AoR, EotE, or F&D career.
    • Newly made Master level characters get 1500 XP while previously played Master level characters can keep any XP they've earned from their previous campaign up to 2000 XP.
    • "Signature" character should ideally be one you have played before, though that is not a requirement.
    • Signature characters get an additional 18,000 credits for customized gear/lightsabers or whatever said character originally had from his/her original campaign if he or she is a previously played character.
    • Converted D6/D20 characters are welcome.
  • All Lightsabers will be built using lightsaber crafting rules from Endless Vigil.
  • No Ilum Crystals. Ilum is lost/destroyed, and therefore its crystals are unavailable.
  • Each character can be of any species from any of the books, as well as from the Unofficial Species Menagerie .
  • All careers, specializations, and Signature Abilities from all source books are open, except for the Retired Clone Trooper (given the time frame, no clones are likely to still be alive).
  • Each character will use the mechanic (Duty, Morality, Obligation) appropriate for his career.
  • No player's Master level character will be mentoring his own Starting character, nor have any connection between them.
  • At least three Players will alternate GM duties, and for some adventures/sessions split the party, each GMing a group.

Once assembled, the party will be headquartered on the Jedi Star .

Current Players/GMs:

@Tramp Graphics Korath Lorren / Rei Atin

@Rabobankrider Kark Skregan / Reesh Zarru

@SithArissa Arissa / Xanth Holm

@TheShard Drez'n Bercilak (pending upgrade)/

@Jonas Shaaf Arvel Venn / Jonas Shaaf

@Lotr_Nerd Jornek Ascendere /

@CathyKitten Ro'Ka / Teetoe

@Stormbourne Excla'ur / Avalon

umm playing where? and you dont say anything about the second characters requirement...
I get the impression this will work like an Ars Magica game?

When will this start? How often? Etc?

The IC and OC threads will be set up in the F&D Beginners Forum once we have enough players and are ready to begin.

As for the starting characters requirements, those will be freshly created characters created using the Rules as Written, and must be native Force and Destiny characters; that means they must belong to one of the six F&D careers ( Consular , Guardian , Mystic , Seeker , Sentinel , Warrior ). They can be of any species from any FFG SW book, or from the Unofficial Species Menagerie that hasn't been superseded by an official version.

The master level characters can have any career from any of the three lines, Aor, EotE or F&D.

As for comparisons to Ars Magica , I've never played that so, I have no point of reference to make a comparison there.

It'll start once we have enough players, and all of their characters are created. And play is continuous, as often as people post. It's a standard Play by Post game.

If a player wants one of his characters to know one of another player's characters, that's fine.

Interested in both playing and GMing, however I don't think I could manage it on these forums.

Would you ever consider starting it up at Gamersplane ?

You get a self-contained, dedicated forum for your game (no intermingling/searching for your threads amongst other threads in the "feed"). Which easily facilitates more threads than just IC and OOC (like an IC "Resource" thread with a running log of IC knowledge, reference images, maps, etc., an OOC Resource thread to post Triumph/Despair/Advantage/Threat expenditure guides in, or crafting rules, etc. for if/when you have a player with out access to those resources, a thread dedicated to the Destiny Pool so you don't have to rely on the GM to track it "off-screen" or search back through threads to find the count, whatever "thread infrastructure" you could want/imagine really).

In-forum character sheets (no need to go to a 2nd website to manage your N/PCs).

In-post avatars for your N/PCs (separate from your user avatar, facilitating different "looks" for your different N/PCs).

In-post swrpg dice roller (no going to a 3RD site to make/get your roll).

I guess after having been there for a few years now (with multiple multi-year games, 2 of which are swrpg) I just can't imagine "making it work" at a non-dedicated PbP site like this anymore, especially knowing there's such an amazing one like GP out there...

Play by Post games here are actually pretty easy, and there are quite a few of them currently running. It's no different than running them on dedicated sites. Most of us use SWSheets.com for characters and ships, and Orokos.com for dice rolling. And these are what this campaign uses as well.

I'd join. But I'd really suggest using the discord app. There is a dice roller bot, that's fantastic and can also keep track of wounds/strains etc its a free app. And when somone messages you can get notified on mobile. Its so much easier to use then forums.

@emsquared i think you'd be a great GM choice for this, I'm in.

Cool. Do you have any preexisting characters from previous campaigns, or are you going to need to make your Master level character from scratch?

if either of you are so inclined

I have a few ideas here from previous charecters.

I'm sort of interested, but also very apprehensive after reading over your old thread. I would like to at least see how it goes with it being know if theres even a single page of arguing I'm out.

Well, that argument should never have happened in the first place, and, if anything, should have been taken to PM regardless. Things just got a little out of hand. Sorry about that. It's one of the reasons we're basically starting fresh. And from now on, any and all disagreements should be taken to PM as well.

Do you have a particular signature character you'll be bringing in?

I would like to keep things here for now, personally, as I'm more familiar with these forums, SWSheets, and Orokos. I'd be more inclined to try Discord in a different campaign, before trying to set something up in an unfamiliar forum, particularly, given my limited access to the net.

The character I used for the pvp event on the EOE forum was a slight change for a character I ran for about a year in person. Shes fully Darkside tho IDK if that would be a problem.

Yeah, that could be. It's a ship full of Jedi and Jedi in training, and my signature character, Korath , is a Light Side Paragon . If it were a Starting character, it would absolutely be a no go. However, I'd still like to see her and go over her with @Rabobankrider and see what he thinks. No matter what, she would need to be working towards redemption, or could be used as a Nemesis if you'd like to take a turn as GM. What XP level is she?

No matter what, I would love to have you participate.

I believe my campaign ended roughly at 600xp. I would need to get the sheet off the Gm of that game on Saturday. The original plan was for her to fall and be redeemed but there wasn't the time to go through a whole arc. Heres the pvp sheet in the mean time http://swsheets.com/c/lkhg1xhv0-arissa

I could do a master level of Drez'n Bercilak... Green Knight of the Corellian system.

Hes a blademaster and seer

@Tramp Graphics do you have mobile phone access to the internet?

Honestly I don't think having a dark side character automatically has to be a problem. Perhaps they find a way to keep that part of their identity hidden, or maybe they're on the path to redemption somehow. Or it could go the other way and end up with them falling to the dark side with other characters trying to help them out. In terms of story it could actually be very interesting to see the various interactions. I don't know if anyone has played the Knights of the Old Republic games, but you see characters from different force alignments and different walks of life (some former enemies) work together for a common goal. Maybe a dark side user would see teaming up as a good means to an end, and the others need their skills to progress? It's really down to people being willing to make it work. So long as players aren't constantly trying to kill each other, it'd be doable.

I would say all master type characters should start on around the same xp to avoid sidekick characters occurring.

Yeah, she'd definitely need to be bumped up in XP. She'll need to be boosted up to 1500 XP. I'm guessing that these are Rebellion era stats? A lot can happen in thirty years. PM @Rabobankrider , and show him this sheet, see what you two can come up with either for a "redemption" back story, or to turn her into a recurring villain if you want.

If push comes to shove, I do have a pregenerated character you could use that would be right up your alley, that you might like. But, yeah, if you want to use Arissa as your Signature character, we would definitely need to figure out how to get this character redeemed ASAP, preferably during the thirty year gap between RotJ and the events of the campaign.

Got an SWSheets page for him?

Not on a regular basis, no. I use Trackphone, which provides a pittance of Data (we're talking in megabites, not gigiabits), and I'm all out. I can only use my phone for internet access at public WiFi hot spots, such as Starbucks . Almost all of my internet usage is at the public library. That's one of the reasons why I want to keep the game here on these forums.

If you're OK with it. check over her sheet, and go over her with it over PM. See what you two can figure out. She'll need to bump her character up to 1500 XP anyway.

@Rabobankrider Arissa's actual story is she found the tomb of a Sith (a Human called Arissa who she stole the name from) and is trying to emulate her in a form of hero worship. What the new Arissa doesn't know is the old one was actually a Lightside sith. To be more specific my Sith Marauder from the SWTOR game.

Got an idea for a starting character? So far the starting characters include a Mandalorian Guardian : Armorer , and a Verpine Sentinel : Shadow / Mechanic .

Ok, well that can work nicely a number of ways. Maybe the current character learns more about her idol and adjusts accordingly (with a lot of work) over time? Or maybe she becomes disillusioned over time with the dark side and decides to try another option. Or there's the whole thing of trying to walk the middle and seeing what happens there. There are a lot of options to work with. Like I say, so long as players aren't trying to kill other players, it can work very nicely. Going back to the KOTOR games you see a sith assassin redeeming themselves, as well as a bloke who's murdered thousands working with the good guys. If we want to make it work it will.

My plan was for her to become a "Grey" Sith. Still follow the Sith code idolising power, but not being a **** about it.

I have a whole file full of character concepts for a new starting character. I'd like to try a Shien/Niman mix. Probably just Human.

Sounds good to me, as far as I'm concerned I don't see any real problem.

I agree. However, unless, or until, she is redeemed, I doubt Korath would let her train any of the students.

I'll leave updating her character to you.

Consular or Sentinel as a career? We have one Sentinel already. Either way, sounds good.

To be fair, mine isn't exactly a noble good guy. It takes all sorts to effectively teach.
