My major complaint with 2.0

That could create other problems. Now you have contradictory information (printed cost vs updated online cost). You're more likely to have people trying to play with invalid lists because they're getting their info from outdated cards. If only the correct information is available via the interwebs, then you do have to go through the trouble of accessing it, but at least it won't actively conflict with all the materials you have in front of you.

Personally, I would find it a bit annoying to have cards with inaccurate point costs and upgrade slots printed on them that haven't been accurate for ages. Feels cleaner this way. Maybe that's just me though.

True. But to me it feels incomplete. Also, I'd prefer ballpark figures actually on the card because I don't live my life with electronics near me, and I'd rather not reference a second document.

And if FFG gets all these cards wrong on the first pass and they all need adjustments, then this whole reboot was for nothing.

Can you expand on that?

If FFG gets all these cards wrong on the first pass and they all need adjustments, they can use the app and website to adjust upgrade slots and point costs for any ship they want, thus keeping the game healthy and balanced and keeping all your favorite ships useful. That's a major feature of the reboot, so I'm not really seeing how that would be "for nothing".

If every single point cost is wrong and stuff is slightly imbalanced for 6 weeks while the players raise **** about the meta and then they fix most of it before November, I certainly wouldn't consider that a wasted reboot.

my biggest complaint is that it's not here yet.

The release interview gave me a little bit of the feeling that releases for the game are gonna be dealt with an attitude of "Since there is no pressure now with easy electronic cost adjustments, we just have to get the horseshoe in the pit. We can kick it a little to make it a ringer later."

My impression is more like points costs become more like Day 1 DLC in computer games. The devs can concentrate on making interesting content during development and they don't need to finalise the points cost until whenever the app gets updated. As opposed to having to finalise the points cost when things need to get sent to the printers and then having to FAQ/Errata the content around the price a year down the line.

except the app already serves the purpose of scaling upgrade costs between ship-types and pilots (especially along the lines of "initiative" and "force user")

it isn't just a tool for conveniently errataing problems, it's a fundamental part of game balance upon release

So they have the tools to balance the game exquisitely , and I couldn't be happier.

The real question is, will they take this responsibility as seriously as we want them to, or will they only put out raging dumpster fires like original JM5Ks? I hope they don't squander this.

it's honestly really difficult to imagine that dumpster fires of that magnitude are even possible given the stringent limitations they have placed on defensive tokens, action chaining, and repositioning. they've really seemingly gone through the entire game with a scalpel and removed everything that could lead to a repeat of 1.0

the only exception I can spy at the moment is Force acting as action independent focus. But given Vader apparently costs almost half your list, I think FFG knows to keep an eye on it

In a beer and pretzels game, would you really be distraught if someone changed a list and it came out to 101 points? Could you just as easily house rule a fixed list of upgrade costs and call it a night? Sure you would have to look it up on a list but it wouldn't to overly complex.

Strawman, man. Of course I have no problem with slight points variations. We see it and agree; everyone is happy. It is the ease of transparency and on the fly adaptability for mid level environments that is lost with this improvement. In other areas though, the improvements are HUGE, so I'm not unhappy.

As I say, I'm now going to push it in my FLGS. I live in Bolivia, my gaming environment is BBowl or WartyK here in the stores. This update will hook 'em...
