2.0: Are you in or are you out?

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

I'm in.

Though I'll admit that I only play Imperials and therefore won't have to buy conversion kits until I'm swimming in them. I guess I'll buy one and see how it goes with what I can play out of that box.

Going by how long I've bee able to extract fun out of a single expansion in 1.0,, I should be happy for quite some time with just that. Which is pretty much the primary reason why I'm in in the first place.

I was out before 2.0, I’m getting back in because of it. X-wing is a terribly broken game at the moment, not worth table time, everything they are addressing in 2.0 goes directly to all my issues so as far as I’m concerned 2.0 is a much needed fix.

After watching the 2 hour demo and seeing the FAQ about what the conversion kits cover, it looks like the game is returning to the flavour of the movies versus the current Meta which to me a new player is more Star Trek than Star Wars, I think this Rev 2 will be far more fun to play and much closer to the Star Wars theme.

I need to spend 300€ to convert all my collection to 2.0, so I'm completely out of this.

Cross faction upgrades are no longer a thing. If you only play scum, you only need to buy scum stuff. Source: (and I'm sooo In)

If true, then I may well be in :)

I think I might be out. I'm not massively convinced of FFG's ability to re-balance the whole entire game of ****-near 60 ships without screwing up (and yes, obviously with the new appstravaganza it'll be easier to correct issues than previously but there'll still be lag between problems being found and problems being resolved), and the upgrade cost of the conversion kits is just too high. Even if I just want to play Imperial going forward I have to shell out £120+ on a base set and two conversion kits, plus I lose all my First Order ships because reasons. Ugh. The more I think about it the more irritated I get.

The movable S-foils on the X-Wing are nice, though.

If the they get the resistance faction right, I'm totally in!

I'm considering my options. The upgrade cost is pretty high for someone who plays all three factions and has multiple models, for example I would need a minimum of 2x Imperial Conversion Kits, 2x Scum conversion kits, 1x Rebel Conversion Kit, plus the new core set plus the First Order & Resistance ones when they come out.

That is a lot of money, I'm going to discuss with my friends who play the game what we want to do because if we all just decide to stick to v1 and play that then none of us have to spend any more money.

Some of the new mechanics look nice but I'm just not sure.

I don't play in tournaments or any competitive stuff so that's irrelevant to me.

Out. I left X-Wing for a variety of reasons and I don't feel that 2.0 does enough to fix all the issues. It looks fantastic, don't get me wrong, but seeing as how I'm a casual player anyway, the thrill of putting ships on the table won't differ much from version 1 stuff that I already have. It's too similar for me to upgrade my collection.

Things I don't like: 1) large ships still have a movement advantage, though I'm curious if boost is still a problem, 2) defense dice suck - I'm a convert to Runewars Miniatures Games' defense system.

Complicating factors for why X-Wing 2.0 won't work for me: 1) I have no playgroup or game store in my new city, 2) since graduating, gaming time has been harshly kicked to the curb, 3) I have a buch of Runewars to paint anyway.

I'm not sick of Star Wars, but I am sick of chasing the same ships and characters in multiple games. If given a choice between more X-Wing or Clone Wars factions for Legion, I'd go with the latter because it actually gives me a new experience with new characters. But even then, the defense saves are as much of a turn-off as defense dice.

I'm in. Probably the only one in our group. And I am a little sad that my primary faction will have conversion kit in Wave II though.

I'm in ! Finally more dogfight ! :)

For what I read people forget to think twice, you don't need to buy all at once !

When I begin X-Wing I don't have buy every ship at once !

Dropping all your collection for such little, may be some people want FFG don't doing kit and buy all again ? No they did a good job with these kits !

I will begin with the new core set + Imperial Kit and will buy more later !

I'm in baby, aaaaall in.

Without more information, I'm in.

IN. ?

I’m most likely out. I’m just a filthy casual with around 100 ships. I like making Epic Play home-brewed scenarios. I don’t think I’ll be buying all the conversion kits I’d need to convert everything I have, unless I can catch them on one heck of a sale. I have 6 X-wings and 16 TIEs, so the numbers don’t really work for me. Even buying singles for all my extra TIEs will be costly. I also have 2 Raiders, 2 Gozantsi and 2 GR-75s, which likely means 2 Epic kits when they’re released.

I’ll continue playing the 1st edition of the game. I’ll buy any upcoming ships I find interesting, so long as they have the 1st Edition rules packed in as well (they said they’d be doing this for a little while, at least). After that, I’ll buy any new models I REALLY like and design home-brewed 1st Edition cards for them myself. Since I don’t play competitively, all I really need are the models and my imagination.

I'm back!

If the conversion kits have all upgrades and pilots I will probably buy in. If I have to buy another A-Wing or Y-Wing or etc to get a certain card then I will probably skip since I have enough ships in 1.0 to field 100+ point squads, and do not need another 1.0 ship, I will buy the core and add another X (#6) and 2 TIEs (#17&18).

I need the info to flush out and probably have to see it in person before taking the plunge; it will have to be absolutely fantastic. I will admit though, the Lambda getting to actually use its rear facing guns is very enticing; love my cows.

In. So very much in.

In, but only when they sort out my lovely and expensive Epic ships.

I got bored of XW due to power creep and now play the more thinking man's game of Armada.

I will go back to XW once its been rebalanced, but in no great hurry - especially if they DO bring an SSD to Armada - that's where my money will go, not buying new stuff just to play a game I already own.

I'm excited about the changes in XW its just that I can think of more fun things to spend my money on than conversion kits (including Tyrants of Lothal for IA).

Far too early to make a concrete decision or (most importantly) commit such a large amount of money - but the cost of the conversion kits is too high and the contents baffling (3 Decimators?), leading to a huge potential buy-in just to use stuff I already paid for. Not even GW ever required this level of financial investment for a new edition.

The actual rules for X-Wing 2 certainly look like a huge (and much needed) improvement, but there's too much unknown and dubious about it for me to say definitively that I'm In or Out at the moment.

up front, no the new rule books did not go for as much as the conversion kits

but that's where GW gets you, by really nerfing popular models from the previous edition, over-buffing previously unpopular models, and then releasing ridiculous new models for you to buy for $50 a pop

granted this was back in like 2005, when the ******* Valkeryie was released and was the most obviously busted thing ever so you had to buy $150 worth of them + veteran troopers to drop from them, not counting all the new things and the old, now crap models you had to replace. And that's just one faction

then there was the dumbass Ripley grey-knight armor that could bamph in from across the table and punch you in the face turn 1...

yeah, GW doesn't seem like it had as much of a buy-in...but the actual costs of upgrading to have any chance of fun was much much higher

I’m in. Core set and 1 Rebel Conversion Kit to start, definitely a Scum Conversion Kit down the road, and we will see how it shakes out with list comp if I’m going to go through the hassle/cost of filling out my cardboard to match my description. As it is I may just replace my X-Wings and Y-Wings over time anyway, so it just remains to be seen if multiple A-Wings is doable enough. To be honest, I’ve only ever flown all 5 of them once.

Also, people do realize that there is literally no conceivable way that the First Order and Resistance Conversion Kits will be $50, right? Until the new show or whatever else gets shown, there are only 7 ships for those factions total. I’m calling $25, maybe $30 if they toss in something like A-Wings for the Resistance.

A few hours ago I would've been out for sure. But after reading all the stuff around the net I will be in. It's just a question about how long it will take to be able to afford all conversion kits since until now I need at least 3 OF EVERY ONE! The changes are nice and mostly neccessary (although I am not a big fan of the app).

Still I will give it a try so count me IN.

In but with a little more caution restraint than 1.0 I'm over the Pokemon reflex and will only be buying what I plan to fly competitively.
