2.0: Are you in or are you out?

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

I'm out. But I think that is a good thing. I've got enough 1.0 to put a new roof on my house. I have several ready-made lists in boxes ready to table. I can start saving my money for other things.

2.0 is going to thrive. This will be big and it should be. Beautiful redesign of the cards, too.

That said, it will be fun to return to this forum in about two years to discover everything that needs a nerf.

As long as the changes don't completely shelf Dash, HFIL yeah.

I agree, I am a Dash fan myself, and that is just due to fluff/lore. I will run him even if he is not top tier anymore ...

(Maybe Eaden Vrill will get a tad boost, he did not need much to become decent.)

I’m in. I have to make a decision though on which faction. It’s realising same month as my wedding and future wife would kill me if I dropped a ton of money on the game. Have to save up some store credit which has also been tough since I don’t go to tournaments very often anymore.

I want to be in, but the upgrade cost is crazy.

If they give us veterans a better deal, like a conversion kit worth a **** I Will be in.

Have they said anything on how the game works? Why are people stuck on v1 squads? We may be able to fly 10 ships gents. Super excited for this never been so glad I kept me stuff. Now don’t screw it up ffg

The great thing about 2.0 is so many mediocre pilots and ships will be tweaked and changed to be more relevant.

So is a Conversion Kit Wave 13 ship going to be better than a Conversion kit wave 2 ship? If not they need to tell them they need to go back and account for 3 years of power creep with 2.0!

In. Having been through multiple WFB and 40K rules changes I can’t believe how cheap this will be. £300 is about what GW expect you to drop every time a FAQ or Codex drops, and that should cover all my ships.

it's really not that bad once you sit down and look at it closer. Especially if you only focus on your primary faction to start.

I for one have almost exclusively played rebels, only took imps to two tournaments, and never scum.

Out of the rebels kit the only thing I'm disappointed in is 3 A-wings. but I can get a few more via trades/buys. So I will be out $90 MSRP USD when it launches? for a core and a rebel conversion kit. $200 if/when I buy the other two kits.

I have a pretty exhaustive collection and I think this is more than fine. Sure 8 tie fighters may require two kits, but you are getting 6 between the core and one conversion kit. Maybe with the new balance changes you can only field 6.

We don't have any idea what squad building will flesh out like yet. So too hard to say what's required just yet.

*action chaining/stacking is more limited than before. Certain ships (TIE advance) can "ptl" a barrel-roll after focusing

*Barrel-roll is more limited, have to line up template to specific marked areas on the base

*Ion is different. It locks you into blue (which are the new green maneuvers) and you can only perform a focus action. Instead of ionizing a set #, you ionize per uncanceled hit result (so if you roll 3 hits on your ICT, you do 1 damage and two tokens). Medium ships (reaper) need 2 ions to ionize, large need 3.

*I think evade changes a result instead of adding it

*regen got gutted hard

31727886_1768441966548178_83463830340517

so just about everything that made 1.0 annoying, i.e turrets/super defensive stacking/super maneuverable high PS arc-dodgers etc. has been massively curtailed

game seems to be even simpler, in an effort to put more emphasis on maneuvering rather than chaining out crazy arc-dodging nonsense at PS 9/11

basically you can't do everything on one ship. you gotta make more decisions

My primary faction? I play all three.

It's bad

Jup that was the only thing my wife immediately complained about. 3 A-Wings is not enough. You get 8 new TIE-Fighter dials, but only 3 A-Wings when you buy a new core-set plus one of each conversion kits.

I'm in.

Being relatively new, I'll only need two conversion boxes max, and even then I'm going to take it slow and just start with the good old Rebellion. I'm really glad that FFG is making these conversion packs--it's basically less than $2 a ship, with the downside being that you have to buy in bulk and X-wing collections aren't necessarily one-size-fits-all. There's no good way to do it economically and also adequately predict who will need which ships, so some people will inevitably find that to complete their conversion they'd have to buy a whole extra box for just two or three dials, and that sucks but I don't think there's a better way to reasonably do it.

At the very least I'll have some extra stuffs from my conversion packs that I can hopefully trade away to people to help fill in those gaps. Hmu in September!

I think only me answered "out". :P

And you are probably right. ?

100% in. X-Wing was getting to the point where not even the t-65 fix was making me excited. This changed that. I can't wait.

so $200?

The more I sit and look at it, aside from some outliers, 1 kit for each faction should be close to enough to field almost anything. And once again, we don't know what squad make up will be like in V2. Pilot abilities are changing, cost structure is changing, upgrades are changing.. it's a NEW game.

Does it suck that if you show up with your 1.0 stuff and everyone else is playing 2.0? sure will.

Does it suck that you need to buy these conversion kits? kinda

is it expensive? Not for what you get (a new game!) considering how many ships they are giving you and for how much.

Look at Attack Wing, they did a 2.0, and they are doing $5-10 card packs PER SHIP. Way more expensive than this solution.

100% in. X-Wing TMG is the most enjoyable tabletop miniatures game I've ever played, and it's only getting better

IM/in

This is pretty much everything I wanted. Can’t wait to have a bunch of well balanced X-Wings and Tie Fighters on the board.

Im in like Luke on a cold night with a warm Tauntaun’s belly.

I’m a bit different as I left 1st Edition a while back due to many issues, so the question is whether I come back, rather than stay.

Really it depends purely on whether I need to buy unwanted or out of faction ships to get cards, like 1st ed. If I don’t, there’s a good chance this will address many issues and I’ll buy back in....if I would still need to, not a chance in ****.

Cross faction upgrades are no longer a thing. If you only play scum, you only need to buy scum stuff. Source: (and I'm sooo In)

I love the changes. My only problem is buying enough conversion kits to bring my whole collection over is financially crippling. I’m in but it’ll be a slow transition.

In like sin.

At first I was sceptical. But now I'll wholeheartedly say: I'm in!
I just buy Rebel and Empire conversion at first and still play v1 casually.

Out for now but if the conversion kits drop to a really low price (~$20) then I might be back in. I'm definitely not buying anything new until it shakes out.

I haven't played in over two years, and haven't bought anything in the past three waves. This update has me excited again, and I'm planning to jump back in. That said, I was also initially frustrated by the cost to update, especially since my collection is pretty modest and missing most of the recent releases.

But I anticipate that eBay will be invaluable, as folks divide up the conversion kits... the Imperial box has 34 different dials, so you're looking at less than $1.50 per dial at the end of the day. For some folks, it may be cheaper to buy the conversion components for specific ships online -- or to trade them with friends/sell them yourself, to help recoup the cost of additional conversion kits. For instance, Imperials are my "main" faction -- but I'll only need 14 of the dials out of the conversion kit, which comes with 34. I expect that I can trade or sell the 20 remaining dials/pieces of cardboard I won't need

Factor in that I can spread out my purchases, and it seems pretty manageable to me. Even if I jumped in with the full $200 buy-in of the Core Set and all the upgrades, I expect that I would recoup much of that cost by parting out the dials/cardboard I don't need. So I don't think the conversion cost will be quite as steep in practice as people are thinking right now.
