It's now a 5-faction game with specific Force stats and abilities - obvious conclusion is obvious: CLONE WARS COMING SOON!

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Please, let this be true. I'm dying for a prequel ffg game and including republic and seperatists in x wing would make me the happiest man on the planet. Clone Wars and Episode 3 is the best star wars content aside from ep 4-5 there is.

You realize that you now have to center the template along the middle line and place your ship also centered on the line, you cannot move it forward or backwards at all.

That's not how Alex Davy plays X-Wing 2.0

I want to believe.

Very pleased that The Resistance and The First Order are becoming independent factions.

Mainly because I don't own any First Order ships, and rarely fly my Resistance ships.

I'll stick with the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance, thankyouverymuch!

I've never been anxious to get prequel stuff, I loved the action scenes and graphics but didn't really care for the movies. So I'm very neutral.

But I do hope, this 2.0 kickoff will allow people to buy faction specific ships only without having to cross purchase stuff. I know the app is coming out, but not everyone will want to use it, new players won't have it installed and if you're like some who play casually... it would be nice if your mate/bud collects one faction and you another so you can game over pizza or wings. That hopping you won't have to own some of all 5+ factions.

My fingers are crossed, which by the way, makes typing this very difficult.

Uuh. Yeah. Clone wars. Because Disney has been riding THAT pony hard. They've been burying it as the Lucas fever dream that it was. Follow the mouse to see what's coming next

I think you're "not wrong" with that. I think the general ire that gets dredged up when Episodes I-III are mentioned is partially why we got such a ham-fisted effort with TFA. I think it is mostly why we haven't seen a whole lot of that stuff.

However judging by comments on upcoming content for Battlefront II (2017) about the developers hearing folks wanting more Clone Wars content (and going by the amount of Clone Wars content they put in the 2017 game compared to the 2015 game) I'm inclined to think it far less politically untenable than previously thought. There is a much greater than non-Zero number of threads constantly creeping up all over these boards about Clone Wars content. The animated series has a wealth of content for all these Star Wars games that they've barely touched.

I think that the sequel films have grabbed the imagination and zeitgeist far less than The Mouse had hoped. They've sold movie tickets but they're not fueling the rest of the machine. And the sorts of folks who provide that additional fuel (buying books and comics and games and videogames and toys) like themselves some Clone Wars.

I'd be shocked if there wasn't a suit of The Mouse with the marketing research to back it up.

Keep in mind, we are still expecting:

  • Armada, IA, and Legion announcements
  • X-Wing announcements for the Solo movie (the Heavy TIE Fighter and Falcon as a Scum ship)
  • Did I mention Armada announcement? I mean...Super Star Destroyer?? I feel like I should mention Armada announcements.

But, yeah, I could also easily see them announcing Clone Wars-era content for the game at this point. It's such a natural fit to debut a second edition with...

Yeah but what's the deal with that? Are there other panels scheduled through the weekend or something? So far as me and the locals have found the only scheduled talk was the Tuesday HSreport. But we too, like pretty much everyone else were expecting announcements for other games. Does anybody know when we're supposed to time back in? We're all Armada players now so... Y'know, kinda anxious over here.

Also, where is this demo game so we can see the play? Something about AD playing it?

There are at least two demo games on YT, can't link because mobile, just search x-wing second edition

Yeah, I corrected myself a few posts later after rewatching. They reduced the wiggle room since the template has to be centered when placed, but you can go forward or back on the other side, it appears. This reduces the possibilities to one-quarter base length forward or backwards for a small base instead of the current range of half a base length, but that's enough wiggle room for me. I didn't see a medium or large base BR yet, but AD does specifically address that they were too powerful so I'm sure they are changed a bit.

I linked to it in a couple posts in the thread, but here ya go again: https://youtu.be/3TxiyKlHeSU

I'm a fan of the split-out, too, because yeah - not into TFA/TLJ era, so have no FO or Resistance ships myself.

I see much the same advantage of the Clone Wars factions being their own sets - people not into them, just...don't have to buy them.

I'm not sure how they plan to do that, but they did say in interviews that's the plan.

I assume non-faction-specific upgrades in a given wave must be identical across all ships in the wave or something (IE., no need to put an astromech in an Empire or Scum or etc expansion - but torpedoes yes)

If they really are going into a lot more factions - and it sounded like they were planning it - then this WILL be an important thing, yeah, as they are going to want to have players able to just buy what they want and not be forced into buying 5 or 6 factions worth of stuff they aren't interested in.

Yeah I can see a 7 faction game.

I don't find the prequels getting as much hate once episode 9 comes out (because the hate will be divided). But despite what you didn't like about the disneyverse it does give us more content to draw from.

Now for the Yuzahn Vong faction, that is still a hard nope!

A calculation token can be spent to turn a single eye result to hit/evade, like a force point. Droid pilots get the calculate action, and droid pilot abilites interact with them, such as getting multiple calculate for a single action.

Vulture droid

Networked Squadron: When you recieve a calculate token, once per round you may assign a calculate token to another ship with calculate on the action bar within range 0-1.

Sound reasonable?

Come on, think of the meta diversity when it happens. Dovin Basals stripping shields, overgrown grasshoppers eating starfighters, and an entire faction immune to Force abilities.

Not that I ever think the Vong will come into the game.

Too reasonable.

It's already kinda IG-88A's ability.

(But, yeah, you can sort of see where they are going with that)

FWIW, assuming the droids have Focus, I'm going to assume this must operate a bit like 'Reinforce'.

IE., it only ever converts one result, never more than one - but the token sticks around after use, for the entire turn.

Or something like that. (Otherwise, it's a strictly-worse Focus, which feels unlikely)

Haven't read the thread but:

Y'all can get clone wars factions now and I don't care cuz I won't have to buy them to get any cards that I might want. Go nuts.

I'm trying to keep the OP updated with the thoughts on that, but you've got one of the better points there which I totally forgot about. Some folks don't like the prequels, and hated the idea of HAVING to buy prequel stuff to get key upgrade cards. Well...that's no longer a thing, so...obstacle addressed!

Droids do not get focus. It is, in fact, strictly worse (according to the worlds stream) but game devs are more willing to hand out multiples at a time.

Here's my thing:

1. I'm not super into prequel ships.

2. I'm not into the idea that post Wave 1, there will be new, non-conversion-kit upgrades in reprint B-Wings and Interceptors and Mist Hunters. That is, ships I already have, and already have the conversions for.

3. If there are prequel factions which also include those new upgrades, I'd much rather pay for prequel ships I'm "meh" about than OT ships I already have, because at least they'd be new ships.

So basically, I'd rather be forced to by prequel ships than forced to re-buy ships I already have.

They clarified in the livestream today that if future waves do come with upgrades not in the conversion kits, they will release conversion kits at that time for the wave in question so players that already own the ship do not have to re-buy it.

Adding another data point: the Y-Wing was renamed to BTL-A4 Y-Wing. Rather like the T-65 X-Wing specifically being called out now. Now...why would they need to do that? ?

?

Wave 6 is the Vong/chiss

Not even joking should be allowed about that. ?

Though Purrgil as environmental models would be cool. :D

Also did you guys see that part about being able to set up different types of themes and tournaments in the app? So OT only people can play their classic games. And Clone Wars fans like myself can have our games.

Seriously even them hinting at Clone Wars from FFG would have me so in. As is right now I'm still out.
