It's now a 5-faction game with specific Force stats and abilities - obvious conclusion is obvious: CLONE WARS COMING SOON!

They've changed the barrel roll mechanic a lot, too.

So now it really is "a good trick". ?

Weeeeeeee!!!!

Total alt-art Republic Anakin Skywalker pilot.

Slightly related, I'm not sure how I feel about the changes to Barrel Roll, now. I liked how it allowed you a bit of leeway to shift forward or back a half-length, and now you can't do that anymore. Seems they felt it too powerful of repositioning, which I can agree with when looking at large bases. Bumpmasters were nasty with it.

I think a bigger issue was that it was very fiddly - many a ship was knocked out of place sliding that template back and forth - nevermind how much more time consuming it was having effectively an infinite number of starting and ending positions. Now you've got one starting position, three ending positions, and you have to call it in advance - you can't make it, sucks to be you...you wasted that action. This should help speed of play A LOT.

(Actually the whole 'wasted action' thing is an improvement. No more measuring target locks that were obviously never possible, 'oh, guess you're just out of range, I suppose I'll boost this direction instead' things. You want a TL, call it, measure it, if you are outside of range...bummer, that was your action. This feels like it will speed up play to a considerable degree.)

I don’t really see the change to b-rolls as at all significant. How often did you really see some roll to something OTHER than one of those positions.

Like X said, the general “loose the action if you can’t do it” is way bigger.

I can get behind more Clone Wars content. I'm certainly more partial to any of that stuff than the lazy artistic design TFA and TLJ have given us.

Do you really think that you can get away without hearing your opponent say, "This is where the fun begins" while playing against a Republic squadron?

Well... What is the point of a republic expansion, if you don't say that?

Y'all saw that the back drop at on the right side of the stage... Was prequel stuff entirely right? Oh it's coming. Sooner than we think.

You realize that you now have to center the template along the middle line and place your ship also centered on the line, you cannot move it forward or backwards at all.

Well, in the Team Covenant interview with Andrew Navarro did include the question "Well, we now have 5 factions in the game. Will we potentially have 20 factions at some point?", to which Navarro responded with basically shifty eyes, awkward smile, and "no comment".

That said, I can't say I'm terribly excited about Clone wars content. I'd probably get a handful ships (N-1, Eta-2, V-Wing, Armored Y wing) for the model alone, and that'd be about it.

Incorrect. There are (apparently) 3 positions to each side that a b-roll can do, forward, back, or directly to the side.

Right, but the starting point is the singular spot in the middle.

OTOH, it's possible the gameplay video goofed that, and it really IS center-to-center. I wouldn't hate that, either, but even so - a fixed 3-options is much better than the practically-9, effectively-infinite-when-trying-to-squeeze-in that we currently have.

Well, it really would be the perfect time for it. Introducing a new faction to the existing 1.0 game would have been a colossal pain - with three factions that have THAT many ships already, getting a new faction up to a competitive level would have been near impossible, nevermind the 1.0 game was already stretched-to-bursting with mechanics patched into the core game that it was never designed to support.

With the cutting out of FO and Resistance, not only are the big 3 factions smaller, but there are 2 other factions now that are quite small themselves - making it the ideal time to slot in another pair of factions.

Actually, I went back and at 32:46 Alex Davy does shift forward and back a bit while looking at his Y-wing's barrel roll. So, it starts centered but you do have 3 possible positions it can end in. I had misinterpreted what they talked about.

That wasn’t the impression I got from the stuff I read, but I haven’t seen anything and may be wrong.

For years now I have wished that FFG had put nubs on the sides too, or better yet, made the bases octagonal, and b-rolling was just a sideways boost.

(Octagonal bases would have also enabled sideslips, which I think would have added design space.)

It does have to start from the center line, but it looks like it ends either forward, centered, or back. I thought it was center line to center line, earlier. If you want to see it, there is a video with Alex Davy playing 2.0 here: https://youtu.be/3TxiyKlHeSU?t=32m46s

Where can I see this??

In the developer panel of the hyperspace report, whenever they cut/pan to the large guy with the black shirt in charge of FFG organized play it's to the right side of the screen behind him. It's obvious and large, you'll see it.

Keep in mind, we are still expecting:

  • Armada, IA, and Legion announcements
  • X-Wing announcements for the Solo movie (the Heavy TIE Fighter and Falcon as a Scum ship)
  • Did I mention Armada announcement? I mean...Super Star Destroyer?? I feel like I should mention Armada announcements.

But, yeah, I could also easily see them announcing Clone Wars-era content for the game at this point. It's such a natural fit to debut a second edition with...

Might not want to tease the Armada peeps, they are pretty salty already over there after today. ?

I'm an Armada player.

I KNOW THE FEELS. ?

Yeah, I'm in the middle of watching that video now, but my ipad died on me. Will finish it tomorrow.

and yeay, you guys ar eprobably right about the barrel roll, but that is not being made at all clear so far in the articles.

Uuh. Yeah. Clone wars. Because Disney has been riding THAT pony hard. They've been burying it as the Lucas fever dream that it was. Follow the mouse to see what's coming next

Wave 1 is the core factions, Wave 2 adds Resistance/First order, Wave 3 adds epic play, Wave 4 adds Sepratists/Republic.

Wave 6 is the Vong/chiss

They just introduced two new mechanics to the game (Force powers and droid "Calculate" actions) that are literally used by about 8 pilots and 1 pilot, respectively, in a game with over 100+ pilots so far. This can mean only one thing.

Search your feelings.

You know it to be true.

(Also the interviews note that this IS the biggest product launch FFG has ever done...ever. '3 to 4 times larger' than anything they've done before. You really think they aren't going to shotgun this one, putting every option out there to hit every possible audience, given how much has been invested in making 2E a success?)

Calculate should be usable by Iggy, Guri, and 4-lom at least, and I wouldnt be suprised to see an astromech or droid crew add it to the action bar.

Probably, sure. It's early days, so no way to know for certain. Still, even given that, you're up to what - 4 or 5 pilots and/or upgrades in a game with most of the way to a thousand different pilot or upgrade cards?

I'd suggest...there is a more likely use case for that action. ? ?

I think you are onto something, it is also already the time where the kiddos from episodes 1 to 3 are grown ups with economic power. Good for them... Also spliting factions makes for less undesired ship buying to stay competitive
