X-Wing 2.0: They got everything right.

By CBMarkham, in X-Wing

The original 1.0 TIE was the best ship for the cost. Nerfing/reworking the broken mechanics from later 1.0 waves brings them back up to par.

Consider, if reinforce in 1.0 was reduce by 1 to a minimum of one, how would a TIE swarm fair against triple/quad Wookies?

Unless you are Soontir Fel, Darth Vader or just an 3 HP generic interceptor with afterburners it seems. Those new autothrusters are looking super nice for those.

What does Autothrusters do? I missed it. Is it auto on the Interceptor? An upgrade?

Yes, Afterburners will let you, but only twice and only after a speed 3-5. I'm OK with that.

[Tie Phantom nerf]

it's actually a buff, apart from the 4-dice downgrade (which was essential, because 4-dice ships without further restrictions are a stupid idea)

now you're not locked to shooting first to be anything more tha a 4-dice z-95. this is a good thing, and makes it actually plausible that we'll see phantoms in greater numbers and varieties

I do like how they didn't add Adv Cloaking Device. The only way to cloak for free is if you still have an Evade token at end of turn. This is a nerf, but makes me not hate it as you will be able to kill it without specific tools or high PS.

Love the 3 red dice.

I guess he has missed the 5+ years of whines about buffing the X-Wing, even though it has remained a better ship than almost all the Imp fleet.

if you're not getting shot, you keep your evade

which means you can keep recloaking and keeping on your target's ***

this'll either turn your phantom into a priority target (a focus which you can then exploit) or it'll become the most infuriatingly annoying thing imaginable if it gets ignored

plus, considering how useless whisper became in a world of ever increasing roster of pilots that shot first, of unavoidable hyper-turrets, and of incredible easy to wield bombs that could land after he moved, losing ACD isn't losing much of anything at all

now the 1 die is objectively a nerf, but I highly doubt the VCX will be keep its either. Now the upsilon...maybe? still wouldn't want it for the sake of game balance. 4 dice is kind crazy, should be limited to certain restrictions such as those placed on 2ndary weapons

...seriously?

the x-wing? a ship that was so utterly useless that only Bigg's game breaking power was enough to let it see play, which got dumpstered immediately after he got errated...is better than "almost all the Imp fleet"

...are we being trolled? it's dang good if we are ?

It's part of the interceptor itself, allows them to boost or barrel roll after any action (of which they have focus, evade, boost and barrel roll to pick from).

What always got me about Phantoms was that if you didn't shoot first, your chances of actually hitting them was very low. So, it forced everyone to take high PS guys. If you liked to take a bunch of generics or low PS guys you had little chance of hitting them. This has changed so that no matter what PS you are, if you picked smart with your dials then you will get a shot at one without cloaking.

So Interceptors can double reposition all the time? Interesting. Makes them special....and fragile. I like it.

I'm assuming it costs a stress, but yeah. I think they're the only ones revealed so far that can double reposition in whatever order they choose. The A-Wing has one linked double reposition, but I think you're locked into boost then barrel roll.

That's backwards. A-Wing can red boost after any action (with barrel roll on it's action bar), so it can barrel then boost, but not the other way around.

And if I am understanding afterburners right they can do it even after a K-Turn. In Soontir's case he might do a 3k, boosts with ABs, chains a barrel roll into it and gets a focus token for having something in his bullseye arc. ^_^
A nimble bastard he still is.

I don't think he would be able to chain because he would still be stressed from the K.

After Burners happen even if stressed. Can only do twice, though.

Depends if the afterburner triggers before or after stress assignment. You would assume that it is before, because else free actions in general should not be of any use in that timing window. But as I said, I have not seen the card myself, just 2nd hand knowledge.

They're the USB port of action economy.

Afterburners specify even when stressed

Gonna be nuts on pilots like soonts and ESPECIALLY Vader with his action independent "focus"

Gotta be careful on the phone, though. Almost autocorrected to afterbirth....ew

I think it specifies you can boost while stressed in general.

yup! you just can't chain into a barrel roll afterward.

FFS USB Connectors have markings which show you which way they are supposed to be inserted. ?

Anyone have a pic of the Awing card?

The A-Wing ability comes from the 2.0 challenge matches commentary. You can watch those games on FFG's twitch stream. We weren't shown a picture, just told what it does.
