I came across an interesting question while reading about the new version, specifically about the app. Alot of customer angst comes from buying ship expansions of ships that never see the table just for a card or two. With the addition of the new app, is it possible we could focus on just buying ships that we want to fly since the app will have all the upgrades or will it likely request a proof of purchase scan or something similar?
New App
You'll still have to bring cards for tourneys, but for casual play, you'll probably be able just to use the app.
Same as you already can if you just play casual with any of the squad builders.
We don't know if the card text will be in the FFG app.
I'd be shocked if it's not, but if it's not, it'll be on the web somewhere, and I'd be surprised if the third party builders don't carry on existing.

Specially cards from Epic ships. There are a lot of upgrade cards that caim with the ships that no one gets to fly the ships but need or wanted the cards. I even for some of these cards because I did not wanna buy a second ship or the ship to begin with.
This might not be good for fantasy flight As these type of changes could drive old players away. And leave a Bad taste in the mouth on the extra cost To convert and change of rules.
Just as many players who were turned off from the game by the massive amount of faq and errata are coming back in, so I'd be surprised if the net change will be negative, th.
Follow-up question: with an official app coming, what are the odds third party apps get cease & desist orders?

Not sure about that, but they certainly won’t be allowed at tournaments in place of the official one.

This probably. It likely wouldn't be worth the effort for FFG to C&D people (unless the Mouse decides to with the license or something but also unlikely IMHO).
I would be willing to bet though that Organized Play rules will require use of the official app or website for a squad to be legal. Since point costs aren't going to be printed on the cards and apparently can possibly be different for the same upgrade on different ships you'll have to rely on the app to make sure your squad is legal. So for official stuff they aren't going to want to have people relying on a 3rd party app being kept up do date.
If it was me I'd make the website the final arbiter. If the site says a squad is legal at the time of the tournament it's legal, if not its not. That clears up any potential rules arguments. If someone challenges legality pull the site up and punch it in.
