Purchasing plan to "Ease" into second edition.

They announced the number of things in the conversion kits. And they make little sense. There's 2 TIE defenders, as well 2 Decimator. Only 4 TIE fighters. And so on. Basically, it's a double kit for everyone, for every faction (maybe triple if epic play, I have something like 9 z95 and 11 TIEs).

Totally agree.

Tbf, servicing collections with 9 Zs and 11 TIEs might've been problematoc for them, lol.

My Scum collection consists entirely of 3 Starvipers. But they didnt even service that ;D

I could buy 2 Scum kits I guess....

But I probably won't.

At the end of the day, I end up with extra cardboard.

Most of my ships fall in line with the quantities they will include in the conversion boxes. I'll be short 2 x wings, but then again, I'm not usually flying more than 2 anyways.

I see a massive conversion kit swap thread in this forum’s future as people try to get those numbers to line up with their own collections.

changes to the templates

Really ? What changes ?

Wow its totally not obvious they tailored it to require multiple purchases...
Most of the spammable ships are in pairs or 3s and all the large base crap is 2 or more (why the freakin heck is the imp pack coming with 3 decimator conversions?!?)

Looks like i'll need 2 imps but thats a ton of wasted cardboard....virtually everyone i know that plays imps has 8 tie/ln but very very few have even 2 decimators and NOBODY has 3.....

We got all summer to sell our plasma and save up. Nothing to complain about here.

Is it even going to be worth spamming a single ship? We don't know what is going to be decent squads yet.

For instance, you might not be able to fly more than 3 X-wings with 1 core set and 1 conversion kit, but maybe its not worth trying to fly 5, maybe 2 X's and 2 Y's is better in the new system.

/shrug. Really too much in the air to worry about trying to field every single ship, unless you play Epic where there will be larger numbers of ships.

So I have a very small collection across multiple factions. Three Interceptors, two TIE/fos, one Phantom, one Striker, three StarVipers, a Kihraxz, and a Jumpmaster, and a T-70. I guess I should get the Imperial and Scum conversion kits (and use the TIE/fos as /lns, at home). I'll just be limited to two StarVipers in lists unless I can scrounge another dial. I had been hoping to create a Rebel list with the ships from Saw's Renegades and another X-wing. It sounds like Renegades and the Core Set should cover that -- but I'm officially in search of a Wedge Antilles pilot card, as I doubt it'll be in the Core Set.

I don't see how the line on the template helps.

It's used to line up the template when barrel rolling, and when you don't complete a maneuver (bump).

I was initially frustrated by the cost to update, especially since my collection is pretty modest and missing most of the recent releases. But I anticipate that eBay will be invaluable, as folks divide up the conversion kits... the Imperial box has 34 different dials, so you're looking at less than $1.50 per dial at the end of the day. For some folks, it may be cheaper to buy the conversion components for specific ships online -- or to trade them with friends/sell them yourself, to help recoup the cost of additional conversion kits. For instance, Imperials are my "main" faction -- but I'll only need 14 of the dials out of the conversion kit (and 2 extras not included). I expect that I can trade or sell the 20 remaining dials/pieces of cardboard I won't need to recoup the cost of the conversion pack. I don't have many Rebel ships, which means it may wind up being more cost effective for me to try and get the specific cardboard pieces I need for them online/through trades.

Factor in this secondary market, I think converting your collection over will be much cheaper than folks are calculating right now. I expect it'll cost me a little over $100 to update: 1 Imperial conversion, 1 Scum conversion, and a Core Set all at the standard online discount (I don't have an FLGS). I can trade or sell off the components I don't need to get the dials/bases/pilots for the few Rebel ships I have in my collection, and put the rest in my pocket. My collection is probably on the small-average size, but I'm sure that the conversion will be cheaper for people willing to take advantage of the secondary market.

Please yes. I've been wanting mixed squads to be good since I got into the game last year.

New Core Set, Rebels Conversion and Imperial Conversion will be my first buy. Well as all of this is released around my birthday I have the feeling I just have to buy two of them ^^

No need to rush it and make my whole collection 2.0 ready on day one. Swapping to gain two more GUNBOAT cards should be easy. And the most important part: Playing 1.0 and 2.0 side by side. Let the old version phase out slowly and adapt to the new one gradually.

I will buy all of it. I may skip the core set.

What Sirdasco said. Sorry but unlike Version 1.5, you will need more than just the damage deck.

You'll need the core set, new tokens and changes to the templates

^THIS^, the whole center-line which locks T-rolls in and overlaps means the 1st edition movement templates will be as compatible as Star Trek Attack wing components.

Tokens and templates are better from 3rd party sources anyway. Rules will be online anyway and the books ffg prints would be obsolete after 3 months anyway. See every FFG game ever ?

Yea but what are you going to do for the new damage deck?

What about the entire collection of upgrades that you're going to score with the conversion that you didn't have to pay for in the beginning with all the V1 ships? Score.

I'm quitting. This is a new game, not an update. If or until there is a new Epic ship and/or campaign pack, I'm done.

When one of the above happens, I'll check back here to see how you all are getting on.

If I do come back, FFG ain't gonna get a tenth of the money they got on this pass.

It's in the X-wing Expack.

1. Get friends.

2. Trade conversion kit pieces with friends.

3. If you don't have friends, proceed to step 1.

Thanks. ? What I meant was I'm trying to cut costs and would prefer to trade for it if possible.

I'm sure that someone will get 2 or more and be willing to sell/trade for it. There will also be those that break open packs to sell individual components.

Wedge is also in conversion set.

So I've done some calculating and for me the value of the conversion kits is going to depend on the upgrade cards. Out of the 37 ship component sets provided in the rebel kit, I'll only be using 14 and I will still need to find another 6 ships out in the wild. For the Imperials, out of the 34 sets I'll use 12 (and still need to get an extra 6).

On the face of that information, it would probably be cheaper to just go and buy ad hoc what I need separately. But... upgrade cards.

No... it wouldn't be cheaper at all, when you have more than 3 ships conversion set is cheaper.

I mean on the secondary market.

6. Slowly get fully 2.0'd up just in time for 3.0.

I have been collecting since start, and just recently had enough ships to play competitively. It has been a huge drain of my resources, and FFG comes up with this.

If they plan on releasing multiple kits, it could have been easier to break down the big conversion kit into smaller ones so people can be more granular with their upgrade path. But unlike squad cost, FFG can't be granular with our wallets. It is a pretty significative cost upfront, it is like paying for 2-3 waves worth of content from the get go, without having the option to say no to stuff you don't own or care about.
