Purchasing plan to "Ease" into second edition.

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So there are going to be 2 types of people, those that have no concern for money and will lump sum dump money all at once to get the entire second conversion (maybe even selling 1.0 to get some 2.0). or those like me are going to go picemail. So here is a plan. Taken in steps.

  1. Buy 2nd ed core set
  2. Pick your primary faction, get that conversion kit.
  3. Pick alternative faction and get that conversion kit.
  4. Pick up 2.0 expansions for primary faction
  5. Choose tertiary faction or expansion pack for secondary faction and purchase chosen option
  6. Do the option you that you didn't chose in step 5
  7. get the rest of the expansion packs you have not purchased
  8. Get caught up in time for wave 2 of 2nd edition.

1 Core and 2 Rebel kits will be my buy in for sure. I can't see me doing much else until Christmas once that happens.

I will buy all of it. I may skip the core set.

You're probably going to need to eBay the damage deck, at least.

You'll need the core set, new tokens and changes to the templates

Day 1 - Core Set and Galactic Empire kit

Day 60 - Rebel kit

Day ?? - First Order kit

Day 120 - S&V kit

etc.

I'm patient and don't need to fly everything Day 1.

Doing the same thing. Core set, Rebel Conversion Kit, and maybe Scum Conversion kit. Everything else will be collected over time.

Core and Galactic empire for me

Besides the Line down the center of the maneuver templates, what else changed to them?

Am I an idiot? I don't see how the line on the template helps.

No plan:

Could help with the "wiggle room" that templates have between the nubs as you line it up with the center line that is printed on the pilot chit.

The line also could be used for new bumping rules.

The line is for bumps.

Or

1. Learn new game from internet.

2. Print out new cards.

3. Hamfistedly crowbar all other 1.0 stuff into new ruleset. Pen and paper may be required.

4. Buy a few bits of paraphernalia off ebay.

5. Buy a brand new 2.0 Firespray for Xmas as a special treat.

6. Slowly get fully 2.0'd up just in time for 3.0.

7. Repeat steps 1 to 6.

meanwhile us 40k players just laugh on the side.

New edition or even just codex usually means a 400USD drop right there, simply getting the codex alone is almost never enough as will getting 1 conversion kit not be enough (they better tell us exactly whats in there and how many of each far in advance to release so we can gauge how many we need)

Tokens and templates are better from 3rd party sources anyway. Rules will be online anyway and the books ffg prints would be obsolete after 3 months anyway. See every FFG game ever ;-)

They announced the number of things in the conversion kits. And they make little sense. There's 2 TIE defenders, as well 2 Decimator. Only 4 TIE fighters. And so on. Basically, it's a double kit for everyone, for every faction (maybe triple if epic play, I have something like 9 z95 and 11 TIEs).

Not sure it makes sense to buy the core set though. Dice and templates seems to be the same, and I hope the pilots and upgrades in the core will be in the conversion sets!

On the 2nd edition page, in the FAQ at the bottom. It's not in the articles indeed.

Plenty of time to stash $$$ aside for new core and one of each initial conversion (which does almost my entire collection.)

Oh nowonder why i didnt see it then. That faq link didnt work for me.

What's so wrong with that? Most of us buy one of everything and have a few special cases with 2. And most will buy one new core set, so you have already 6 TIE-Fighters. And another 2 in the Rebel conversion kit. 8 TIE-Fighters. done. Just not 8 Academies. Though 6 academies and a named for example should work out already out of just a core set and the rebel and imperial conversion kit. Bigger issue is that you only get 3 A-Wings. So that might indeed require to get at least a second conversion kit.
