My pressing question is if the app builder requires data to use at tournaments or you can just download it and the current version is all you have to worry about.
2E - My one pressing question

My impression is that it shouldn’t be needed at the tournaments AT ALL. It’s just a squad builder, you only use it when constructing the squad, not while playing, you’ll take the cards and stuff to tourneys as normal.

As long as they don't do an update 2 days before!

They’ve been pretty good about being aware of that sort of issue in the past. It’s only been recently, as things got more and more out of hand, that it became any sort of problem.
I'll take it.

The System Open ones however appear to have no line. It's also interesting if existing Acrylic Tokens will be tournament legal as well (since there appears to be some form of meaning to token shape now).

5 months. Official drop date is September 13th.

Yeah, just think, all those alt art cards you get are worthless. Damage deck - worthless. Shouldnt I be excited about a systems open? I can play 3-6 meaningless games at my LGS.
A nice surprise would be they change all decks to 2.0. Highly doubt it.
Im curious about the asteroid tokens as well, they're the only things that look new to second edition minus the damage deck. Sure the templates are "new" with the lines down the middle, but they aren't necessary to play. They said in the announcement that the Worlds X-Wing players would be able to either use them in the tournament this week or they're at least getting a set.
Where do you get acrylic templates with the line in the middle?

Well, for my self, I am going to take my existing acrylic templates, make a new jig, and add the line in on my laser engraver.
That probably isn't an option for most people though.

They are the same. They were cast-iron clear that the dice are not changing.

Yep, a whole new deck with completely different cards. SOunds like a lot more variety, only 5 direct hits instead of 7, so at least one more new card type, and some of the less nasty crits are worse, but some of the nastier ones are less vicious - and it seems like there are a lot more ways to turn peoples' facedown damage over, too.
For instance, There's a Panicked Pilot crit - take two stress. And the new Damaged Engine just makes your turns one difficulty WORSE, rather than red, so if you have green turns, they only become white which makes it way less likely that you can get irretrievably stuck in a corner - but also means a second one is still bad (assuming you have green turns, anyway), whereas previously a second one might as well have been blank.
It's been rebalanced again, and what I've seen of it so far feels better, generally.

The most likely interpretation at the moment is that you will need a new 1 straight available for barrel rolls, but other templates will be legal - and it might be useful to bring the turns and banks to help resolve bumps too. I don't intend to stop using my nice, expensive cogotwo stuff unless I absolutely have to.

Don't panic just yet. Well, considering FFG is still allowing the use of the original core set damage deck in competitive events, it may be the case that the Force Awakens/System Open damage decks will still be usable in 2nd Edition.
I mean, we know some cards are still the same; off the top of my head I can't think of too many critical effects in the current damage deck which wouldn't work from what we've seen of the 2nd Edition rules.

Unfortunately the regional ones don't have that line.

The wording of how the cards are handled is totally different - repair and expose are the keywords for flip down/up, for instance.
I would be surprised if the 1e decks are legal in anything other than a very short term transitional capacity.
Why would 1st edition components be legal in 2nd edition?
2nd Edition is a new game.
Only the models are interchangeable.

And the small and large bases and pegs. And the dice. ANd most of the templates.
Really the dice are the same?
How can they change the game all that much then?

Yes, the dice are the same.
They're changing basically all of the rules at least a little AFAICT.

Unless they also adjust Tallon Rolls just like the Barrel Roll, then you also need new turn templates.

My understanding of BRs is that you will have to start them from the middle and can end them in the middle or at the extreme front or back. T-rolls will just end at the extreme front or back, so no need for the line.

If you play in tourneys you're going to need to share your list from the APP in someway. Otherwise no one will know if any other list is "legal."

This is a bonus if you pre-order the core set.
