Looking at the video and release images I see new debris and asteroid markers. For official events, will the 1E stuff be compatible with the new 2E system?

You and me both. I'd rather not have to go out and buy a third set of acrylic templates.
This is also my biggest query.
movement templates are the same size. just a new line to help with bumping. I would say they are compatible.
shields, focus, evade, stress...most should be okay I think based on what I've read.
I think they are trying to make this as painless on old players/long term players as possible... but still make money.
the dial upgrade blocks... how different are they? can I use my old ones still? Now thats the quesiton.

The X-Wing dial is exactly the same but includes Talon Rolls added via the new upgrade that is dead before it even arrived. It looks like they're willing to make dial changes at the very least.
I think they are being very careful how they go about this. People have spent a lot of money (and TIME!!!) on winning their dice and templates at regionals/nationals/worlds, so I expect they will be compatible. To make all that worthless in an instant could make people *flip the table* and walk away which is what they are trying to minimize.
"Congrats you just won Worlds 2018! Here are your worthless templates!" I dont see that happening.

Well the 2018 templates already have the line.
There is a Questions thread stickied that the devs will be monitoring. They won't be answering it in that thread but its likely where they will get content for future information releases from.

It looks like the inner wheel is the same size. It's just the outer wheel that's larger.

They're selling a limited edition one with nice T65 art, otherwise, ebay or probably events going forward. I'd be surprised if they don't do a System Open one, and maybe even a Nationals one in the upcoming series.

Perfect for casual players.
I look at the new dice set and have a gnawing fear that the dice are different.

They changed it so that the "regular" maneuver dials will have all moves visible when planning. So it seems a larger "back" with the part with the maneuvers the same size we have now. It looks to me like you'll be able to use any of the old dial covers with the new system. The pics of the dial covers in 2nd ed packaging look exactly the same.

That is my take as well. Not sure I like that all the maneuvers will be visible, seems like it is asking for mistakes to happen.

I hope so. I did a search or two on the page, didn't really notice anything specific on that. I may have missed it, it might not have been mentioned in the articles.

Seems like it might be easier for dials moving off what was originally intended but not having to scroll through your maneuvers should speed up play.

Wait, so this is a new damage deck, changed from the TFA one? The one thing that has me kind of bummed is that in a few weeks I'll just be going to my first System Open and getting an awesome Boba Fett damage deck that'll be good for all of two months.
