X-wing Second Edition GRIPE CHECKLIST!

By ficklegreendice, in X-Wing

It's not even that no list uses 3 Decimators.

It's mathematically impossible to run 3 Decimators in a list.

Therefore, even those of us who are really compulsive about buying 100 points of every ship won't have 3 Decimators.

And even if they change the point costs of Decimators to allow us to run 3 of them in 2.0, people who want to do so will need to buy a new Decimator (for the plastic ship), and so won't have any use for the 3rd conversion.

Maybe it's a typo in the list.

That would make a lot of sense. No other large-based ship has more than 2 copies in a conversion kit.

Seems cost complaints are the winner with day 0 threads :o

Granted concerns are merited but we're just having fun here

2 of my kids also play tourny level...so triple the number of kits and costs. A quick 300-500+ just to stay legal. I feel like Games Workshop just kicked me in the nuts

It's mathematically impossible to run 3 decis in a list... in 1.0. In 2.0, who knows, it might be.

I addressed that, right? Because if it becomes possible in 2.0, then we're all going to need to buy a third Decimator, which means buying one of the new ones that is already converted.

Unless you know a bunch of people sitting on a third Decimator just in case it became possible to play 3 in the future?

BOLD = MY STUFF

Right? This is my main complaint. I will point out that there are currently 3 ways to get an X wing (Saw's will be #4, but will come with V2.0 cards anyways) and yet they only provide 2 upgrade packs. For the amount of money they're charging for freakin cardboard, they really should have given you everything you need to convert in 100pts. Or at least everything you'd need to convert V1.0 100pts. Or even perhaps everything less 1.

Raise your hand if you have more X Wings than GHOSTS? Who here has THREE Decimators but only 4 TIE fighters? The scum one actually seems like a decent balance.

P.S.... Anyone want to buy some X Wings, Y Wings, A Wings, B Wings, or TIE Fighters? You know, those core ships that everyone likes to see on the table?

So I can't use my expensive huge ships? I'm not a tourney player so I'm out.

I am really iffy on the Fluid/Amorphic point system that changes around depending on pilots.

How will I know if the upgrade will even WORK on my favorite pilot? Heck, that has been a driving factor for me to buy a few expansions, to make my current list better. I can't instantly look at something and think of what lists it will fit into well, I will have to refer to the APP, which is just dumb to me.

Lee Dalton has like 20 or something.

Then he'll only need 7 conversion kits ;)

ACTUALLY - maybe less. I'll happily sell him one out of mine. Who else is in?

I'm assuming by huge ships you're actually referring to huge ships, aka epic ships. In which case they did say to stay tune for upcoming comments regarding epic ships and that they are not abandoning epic. Presumably that'll come out with the information regarding Resistance and FO ships.

Yes I am, but why should I be fleeced for ANOTHER conversion kit?

so I checked the product description for the stand-alone expacs because they're $20 but from the usual $15. You can see, however, that the box is a LOT bulkier than the 1.0 version

from the description, " The T-65 X-Wing Expansion Pack for X-Wing Second Edition includes a beautifully-painted T-65 X-wing miniature for you to add to your squadron, a maneuver dial, and all the ship and upgrade cards you need to fly this iconic starfighter into battle. In addition, the T-65 X-Wing Expansion Pack contains a few entirely new cards that have never before appeared in the game's first edition. These new cards and associated punchboard are also included in the Rebel Alliance Conversion Kit for the benefit of veteran players! "

I think it's pretty heavily implying the stand-alones will also serve as soft conversion kits for their specific ship-type, so if you have a 1.0 X-wing and buy the 2.0 X-wing you can probably fly both

except the 1.0 won't have the swanky s-foils :(

or it's just new stuff, idk. FFG wording tends to be ambiguous

probably not though, if there's only 1 dial included

Is it my imagination of does slave 1 look fugly compared to the current version?

It's a render, and not a high quality one, it'll be fine in the flesh as it were.

I watched the Hyperspace report on twitch and a couple of things people are missing is that the game will be going to a 200pt game, and the app will tally up the points costs for upgrades and ships. They also said that they will be posting a pdf file with all the points costs for those who don't have regular access to the interwebs. People seem to be thinking they can just port lists from 1.0 to 2.0 and just new cardboard, but with the fact that they don't have VI or PtL anymore, it's not going to be that simple.

Take away: stop freaking and see how things pan out before you start worrying about jumping ship.

With one of each conversion kit and the core I will have a few ships that wont have upgrades and that is mainly because I have so many for HotAC (15 TIE). The A, B and Defender are the only ones I see that I might possibly need another 1-2 cards/dials.

A-Wing 4 2
B-Wing 4 2
X-Wing 6 4
TIE Defender 3 2
TIE Fighter 15 6
TIE Interceptor 6 3

Also they are introducing Medium Size bases for ships like Slave 1 and it is now Scum only

No, it would be the equivalent of a sequel.

Actually, it IS like patching a video game. Halo 3 did this exact same thing. You got the game and you could play any online mode without the map packs just not the maps you didn't have (obviously). Then they change it to requiring the map packs to play certain game modes. Then I stopped playing Halo 3.

Feels like Asmodee/FFG is the Activision/Blizzard of board games.

Looking at the contents of each refit kit, I'm going to need 2 of each to upgrade my collection to 2.0 standards. I don't mind. I can preorder one each at my LFGS and pick up (hopefully) the other 3 at GenCon.

Did anybody say Rebel/Resistance bias yet?

Because Force powers, with the fact that they frequently have to make up brand new characters just to fill the ranks for Scum/Empire, whereas Force skills are a dime a dozen among the characters who already have names in SW canon.

So either Force powers aren't going to be all that good (but... looks like they are) or they're going to be faction imbalanced.

Good thing FFG is well known with a proven X-Wing track record for keeping good balance.

Just a thought. What if all the casual players said "screw it, I'll play Version 1 casual". Can the competitive players keep X-wing afloat?

Yep. I'm done. I'm glad I was able to collect at least one of every 1.0 ship so my sons and I can play.

The kicker for me wasn't the $50 upgrade packs, they actually seem pretty reasonable for everything offered.

The real disappointment is the increase from $15 to $20 for small base ships and the mercurial squad point cost of upgrades.

Good luck everybody!

But few rebel characters are gonna have 3 force powers, whereas Vader definitely will, and palp will increase force capability, and the inquisitor I don’t see going lower than 2, which will probably be the highest any rebels go

Yup, Luke only gets 2 force to start with.
