New worlds tournament article up

  • Rallypoint Qualifiers are competitive tournaments held at gaming stores that can meet certain baseline requirements.

There's no limit to the number of stores that can host a Rallypoint Qualifier—provided each store meets the minimum requirements in its territory—but a given store can host only one Rallypoint Qualifier per year.

Interesting.

Slightly disappointed you have to go through adepticon to get to worlds, feels like this will really limit who can try. Hoping in coming years they will open it up a bit more, maybe a couple of international tournaments feeding 8n as well. Guess they’re waiting to see how well it works and the take up on tournaments.

I’m.... very disappointed.

As a Canadian TO, this really... it’s a deathknell for actual competitiveness on the world scale...

In Australia and we feel the same way

Yeah, World's being essentially the top 8 cut from Adepticon is lame.

NOVA has been advertising their tournament as a "World's Qualifier" ... guess not. Or maybe it's true ... from a certain point of view.

A "Rallypoint Qualifier" just sounds like a Store Championships.

Edit: Because I can't read apparently.

So basically, there's Store/Regional championships, winning one of either qualifies you to enter "Worlds" at Adepticon, and the "Worlds" top 8 cut is at actual Worlds with paid accommodation/travel.

hopefully they give the national champions from other countries an invite to join worlds aswell

Yeah calling it a world championship is a joke with that structure. If they get 1 person from outside America in the top 8 of that new structure I’ll be impressed.

Doesn't Adepticon mandate painted models for all events? Does this consequently mean FFG will have a very streamable worlds with mostly painted armies?

Let’s hope this isn’t the way they decide to go with other games like Armada.

I dont do official play but can I ask as I dont understand.

People are complaining but wouldnt people from all round the world such as OZ/Canada/UK or wherever all need to travel to one location to play in some 'finals' or something anyway?

Im not knocking anyone, just dont understand the setup and problem people have with it as im not into the scene.

For places like Australia, the National champion normally gets flights and accommodation paid for in order to attend Worlds.

With the new structure, no Aussies can make Worlds because theres no paid prize route to Adepticon.

So therefore players from countries like OZ, Canada and UK would have to fork out money (worth more invested in their minis) to attend Adepticon just for a chance at getting into Worlds.

Ah got it.

Didnt realise the transport/accommodation free in the normal way.

Effectively the Worlds are at Adepticon with a top eight cut though to the finals (which are at FFG HQ presumably.) It would make more sense to have the top 8 finals the next day at Adepticon but presumably they can't fit it in timewise.

Like many people, I would be highly surprised if any non-US players make it to the Finals.
