To Aileron or Not to Aileron

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

The Reaper is one of the first ships where I really have to question whether or not to use the title.

The base dial is odd. I believe it may be the first one where a 1-point increase in speed causes the maneuver to change from green to red. The Aileron title alleviates this, but at the cost of forcing you to perform a 1-straight or bank before moving anywhere. In practice, it pushes you forward using roughly a speed-2 maneuver before your actual chosen maneuver will take effect. Your ship is either going to be screaming fast, or it's going to be driving through molasses.

I think the Aileron title is going to be the superior choice most of the time, but it's really a tough call for me.

I think it will depend on what you're flying with. If the rest of your list is quite fast you'll want the ailerons, if its a slower list you might not.

edit: That said I do agree with everyone else. The default will be taking Ailerons, but I think you will see a few lists that don't run it.

100% take,

The positioning is mandatory but almost always beneficial if you plan correctly add to the fact it makes the 3 banks white and you pretty much need to take it. lets not forget that it also has a 0 move so you can still effectively slow roll if you need to.

I think it’s auto include in my case, he will be very difficult to block and that’s necessary because his actions are very important in some squads, and even if he is just escorting palp around, the dynamic sloops are really bad *** and an amazing tool for keeping him relevant( which is why you are forking over the extra points above the shuttle

And being able to 1 bank and then 1 sloop in the same direction is nuts.

Almost definitely autoinclude. If you need to slowroll you have a stop.

Always take

Why wouldn't you? It's free, action independent manueverability and the dial is utterly atrocious otherwise

I'm in the always take boat

If you want to slow roll, just don't clear the stress until a turn or two before combat.

100%. Once you learn to not hit rocks in a Striker, the upside is 100% take

Palpatine gonna be like:

Don't forget that if you dial a 0-stop you still have to do your ailerons move first (unless you were stressed already, in which case your stop becomes a 2fwd). Bumping on the aileron move is the best way to go slow, just as with strikers

You can have an amazing dial with just the Tie MKII upgrade, converts all banks to green. That increases total green maneuvers to 9 plus the white 1 hards, 1 sloops and a stop.
