Triple Reaper Aces

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So....Thoughts on how to use the new Reaper Uniques:

  • Major Vermeil
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Opportunist
    • Agent Kallus
    • Gunner
    • Lightweight Frame
  • Captain Feroph
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Predator
    • Intelligence Agent
    • ISB Slicer
    • Lightweight Frame
  • "Vizier"
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Recon Specialist
    • Inspiring Recruit
    • Lightweight Frame

Thoughts?

You've got some choices I really like, and I enjoy the thematic building challenge! Here is how I'd do it myself:

Vizier

RecSpec x2

LWF

Cpt. Feroph

Expertise

LWF

Director Krennic

ISB Slicer

Mj. Vermeil

Expertise

Title

LWF

Courier Droid

Everybody has 2 agility and respectable health, of course, while the real star, Feroph, can get free evades. Vermeil has Expertise for focus results and his ability for blanks, Vizier has focus for offense, defense, and one to pass, though he can pass one of his own if he wants, and he gets the Krennic Condition to use his blanks. Feroph can double jam the enemy, and has Expertise and the TL from the condition for offense.

I like the Captain Feroph build. The initial list was written before I realised just how awesome Director Krennic is; as essentially a Shield Upgrade and a Fire Control System (on a ship with no Systems Slot), he's a bloody good choice to attach to the ship he's actually on - leaving the Reapers able to fly independently.

Optimised Prototype + Expertise makes Feroph's offense ridiculously reliable, and his ability, slicer and lightweight frame makes him extremely tough.

Vermeil - given his ability, Expertise seems a waste. Theoretically you should be getting one focus-to-hit anyway, so buying the most expensive elite upgrade going when you're probably getting the same mutually exclusive benefit seems a waste, especially since Vizier may well be throwing him focus tokens. Predator is a better deal, because focus modifiers and rerolls stack, and that spare point can net you an Intelligence Agent - not a bad choice given the Reaper's ability to shuffle its final position a bit with ailerons - or an Inspiring Recruit as good insurance against the stress brigade (I expect Reapers to prove as stress-prone as Strikers).

This feels like it'll be a MASSIVE drag to actually fly against, unless you have full tokenless mods at which point it collapses like a popped balloon.

Not necessarily - if you are facing people with no tokens, Feroph and Vermeil SHINE

Slight update:

  • Reapers hate stress as much as strikers, so opportunist can go languish in a bin
  • Adrenaline rush is so scarily awesome on a ship with ailerons and segnors' loops - especially with the added option of a 'stop'.

  • Major Vermeil
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Adrenaline Rush
    • Director Krennic
    • Rebel Captive
    • Lightweight Frame
  • Captain Feroph
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Adrenaline Rush
    • Ysanne Isard
    • ISB Slicers
    • Lightweight Frame
  • Vizier
    • Advanced Ailerons
    • Agent Kallus
    • Recon Specialist
    • Twin Ion Engines MkII

Fly as a wing for a scary amount of mutual support. Vizier can theoretically hand out a focus each to Feroph and Vermeil and still get modified attack and defence. Vermeil and Feroph can actually dogfight surprisingly well and both are deeply unappealing targets, and have actions free to jam the bejeezus out of people.

I would say give Feroph death troopers. This will entice your opponent to attack him first, ideally triggering his ability. and if they choose to attack one of the others, than they get stressed. You could PTL him to focus/evade or jam/evade to keep him alive. That would also give you any easy option to turn off ailerons when you want him to slow down.
