By Jekomi, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,

I'm going to my first Store Championship and would like commends to my selected build..

Captain Oicunn VT-49 Decimator (42)

Expose (4)

Mara Jade (3)

Rebel Captive (3)

Agent Kallus (2)

Dauntless (2)

Tactical Jammer (1)

Whisper (32)

Push the Limit (3)

Advanced Sensors (3)

Intelligence Agent (1)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Total 100

This is just my second tournament and would like to know if this list will work for a Newbie?

Regards

Jekomi

Alright so you have some good ideas in there but maybe just a little work to optimize the list, if you're looking to take it to a tournament.

Oicunn: many people will tell you he's just not top tier and to take Chiraneau but if you like him I think you can make him work. You got the right idea with Dauntless, as you'll be running into people (hopefully) and want to get an action after that. And then we have some upgrades that aren't completely optimal because of situations that arise.

Expose may not be what you want because even though you don't get the downside of losing agility, you don't get anything in the form of modifying your dice. Kallus helps a little, but you are losing out on half of his ability to have him on something that doesn't have agility.

Mara Jade and Rebel Captive are a little redundant because Mara can't stress someone that already has stress from shooting Oicunn that round.

Whisper: as fun as Advanced Sensors, PTL Whisper can be, I think she really just wants to be as high pilot skill as possible to arc dodge, make sure to get shots, and recloak as fast as possible. Veteran Instincts, Fire Control System, and Advanced Cloaking Device should be stapled to this card. Then maybe you can use these points a little more on other things.

Here's where I'm at with the two of them if I were going to fly them together, trying to keep much of the core of what you have going on:

TIE Phantom: •"Whisper" (40)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)

VT-49 Decimator: •Captain Oicunn (60)
•Experimental Interface (3)
•Dauntless (2)
Expose (4)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
•Emperor Palpatine (8)

Total: 100/100

Whisper at PS9 and Int Agent is still good to help deal with higher PS.

Oicunn still Exposing himself for pew pew but he has Experimental Interface in order to get a focus or TL as well as Expose. This paired with Dauntless double stresses him so we use Inspiring Recruit to ditch both stress on a green move. Inspiring Recruit can also save Whisper if she ends up getting double stressed by something.

Palp if you have him to help keep Whisper alive, or if she doesn't need the evade that turn, can be used on Oicunn's attack for a crit.

If you don't have Palp and can't borrow him then you can go Gunner and Rebel Captive.

Hi Jekomi,

To piggy back here, I agree that you are not optimizing Oicunn's ability with expose. I'm no pro though, so take it for what it's worth.

The dauntless title giving you the action is great, and crucial, have you considered using Daredevil?

Remember that daredevil is a move, not a boost, so if you ram them again it's more unavoidable damage.

It's also a lot of fun. Palp is amazing of course, but if you're willing to convert those 8 points you can pick up a lot of useful stuff.

With this you have rebel captive to hand out stress, Ysanne for free evades, and Kallus for mods.

Daredevil3

Agent Kallus2

Rebel Captive3

Ysanne Isard4

Engine Upgrade4

Dauntless2

Ship Total: 60

Thanks, I jsee Both your points.

Any surgestions for a better support than Tie Phantom?

Quickdraw, Vader and Inquisitor are pretty standard wingmen for decimators. QD and Vader can be PS 11, which can be hugely important to hunt other aces, or can stay at 9 and you can build them for more throughput, typically expertise on QD or Lone Wolf on Vader. What all ships and upgrades do you have? You should be able to make a pretty good list with a deci +1.

I have a lot to choose from.

My Imperial collection is:

Both Core sets

TIE Fighter

TIE Advanced

Slave I

TIE Interceptor

Lambda-class Shuttle

TIE Phantom

VT-49 Decimator

TIE Punisher

TIE/FO

TIE/SF

Alpha-class Star Wing

TIE Silencer

Imperial Aces

Imperial Veterans

Imperial Raider

Imperial Assault Carrier

Got an Engine Upgrade? Decimators looove Engine Upgrade. A lot.

At least that was the case back in my day.

If you go with Daredevil oicunn you want inspiring recruit for the double stress of double ramming by dauntlessing daredevling. Isanne doesnt work if you use daunless since stress gets applied in the activation phase and she kicks in at the start of combat.

My go to build: oicunn with daredevil, inspiring recruit, rebel captive, insert crew of choice (mara jade or kallus or gunner or intel agent), dauntless, Engine upgrade. clocks in at 55+third crew.

my phantom build runs along a similer idea to your original idea. Echo with PTL, advanced sensors, recon spec, light weight frame.

you can still do a fancy decloak in your initial engagement, adv sens PTL a green maneuver to fly into combat rolling three green dice with 2 focus and an evade token.

....of course this isnt top tier, but it is fun double ramming stuff and not having to be terrified of your phantom being out PSed.

Blackout in a silencer with debris gambit, adv sensors, adv optics, exp interface and vanguard if it fits. I know people swear by atothrusters.... but i likes my evade tokens.

I second the double ramming option!

My oicunn list is as follows:

(99)

•Captain Oicunn (64) - VT-49 Decimator
Daredevil (3), Thermal Detonators (3), Inspiring Recruit (1), •Rebel Captive (3), •Ysanne Isard (4), Extra Munitions (2), •Dauntless (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

•Lieutenant Karsabi (35) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Wired (1), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

isard you cant use when double ramming.... however I like her for the evade on the turns where you are coming about for another pass.

Thermals discourage pursuit.

Karsarbi i love for being able to slam slam and shoot the hlc.... find he complements the in your face decimator really well.

Its a really fun list and always makes me feel I’m “in the game” so to speak.

Thanks for pointing this out. I messed this up before. Appreciate the heads up.

With Isaane, I like her on Kenkirk: PTL, reb captive, kallus, isanne, EU.

Once you get that first damage, order of operations becomes: move and focus. start of combat phase, take your evade action, PTL and boost or TL accordingly.

Take that PS 11 ships moving last. harumph

That's awesome. Very good.

I've been running:
RAC w/ Palp, Kylo, VI, EU with Ryad running PTL, Stealth Device, and X7. It's super shooty. Ryad is an amazing blocker. PS10 boosting RAC is a large base arc dodger. Those turns that you do land in arc and know you can't boost out, that's when its time to Kylo a Blinded Pilot and Palp a crit when you shoot. RAC's ability plus Palp crit usually at least - BLANK HIT CRIT CRIT (those are R1 mods from BLANK BLANK FOCUS HIT). Ryad with Stealth Device at R3 (where she wants to be if getting shot) is rolling 5 green dice w/ a target lock, focus and evade token with palp to mod an evade if she ends up in trouble.

I ran Kenkirk + Ysanne + PtL for awhile. It was fun ,but I really do not recommend it for competitive.

That boost after everyone else moves seems pretty spicy, but being limited to green moves with that ship and being forced to take the super wide turns means you can only utilize 4 out of your 14 possible maneuvers. It simply isn't worth it. Trust me on this, you can fly better with a full dial than with a dial consisting of 4 maneuvers and no hard turns.

Oh, and if you have this stuff equipped but decide not take advantage of this combo on a given turn ('cause it wrecks your dial) it means you PtL in the activation phase and then can't use Ysanne, or it means you use Ysanne and thus aren't utilizing your 3pt PtL. So...with this setup, not only do you pay for the upgrades, but then you sacrifice one of yours tools as an additional opportunity cost making the entire strategy greatly over costed.

You pay for the dial, you pay for Ysanne and you pay for PtL, but even though you paid for all 3, you only get to use two. That's a bad point investment. My two cents. You do you. Good times.
