New X-Wing model opens and closes?

By iamzoner, in X-Wing Rules Questions

With an outstanding new model t=65 X Wing model on it's way, I can't help to wonder if the servo motors upgrade card that comes with the expansion will eventually be FAQ'd to only be allowed on the model with moving wings in order to prevent game play confusion???

Anyone care to speculate whether the moving wings on the new model will be mandatory for using the card or not?

I would be incredibly surprised if so. FFG isn't perfect, but thats a whole new level of silly.

Also the pack comes with multiple s-foil upgrades.

No, the rules will not require the wings of the model to be adjusted during gameplay, any more than the U Wing rules do already.

No. FFG is not GW.

I would appreciate an S-Foils reminder token, though, so it's more obvious on the table what options are available to myself and my opponent...

Glue an X-Wing and Z-95 dail tokens together and Bob’s your uncle.

TBF, in the times I've proxied the card, 99% of the time they've stayed open because I want 3 attack dice and/or barrel roll. Unless you're regenrunning I doubt there's going to be many instances where you'll be closing the s-foils.

I'm not surprised, boost is not worth -1 attack. Also there is not a lot of gotcha moment to have, the only surprise is the possible T-Roll...

The open side is all around way better... And at some point, just ask the opponent...

Yeah. I'm thinking the closed side is more for managing the opening engagement; more slipperiness in your initial position. Once combat is imminent, pop the wings open and go to it - no reason to close them after that, unless you need to RUN FOR YOUR LIFE for a turn or two.

Or if you need an extra choice of green to regen with R2-D2 and get away a little more at the same time.

In my first game with the new S-foils, I was set up for a joust, but decided to close them on my stressed Luke so he could 2-bank and boost in for a clutch block on a PS11 Dengar. Wound up keeping him on a rock for two straight turns, which probably decided the game. It's always nice to have options, and the S-foils give you a lot of flexibility.
