The future of the new X-Wing.....ANSWERED!!!!!

By drail14me, in X-Wing

Soon we’ll have Saw’s Renegades and the new articulating X-Wing. I seriously doubt this pack will be the only way we can get the new X-Wing. I fully expect them to be released as a single ship expansion and possibly in another large pack.

So, if they are released as a single ship expansion, do you think the model simply replaces the current X-Wing model with the same pilot cards or do you expect something different?

personally, I believe it will be a different expansion possibly listed as a T-65 X-Wing with new pilots and upgrades. I figure they will keep the old X-Wing expansion as is for future new players.

Thoughts?

There's no reason at all to expect a standalone x-wing expansion. That's never happened before.

Ya I see no reason why they’d do a stand-alone when they are milking you for more money with this. They’ve never done a single ship release for ships in a revisit expansion with the upgrades included in that revisit pack.

A new t-65 standalone expansion feels unlikely. Not impossible, but it doesn’t fit current historical data. I could see the new moveable wings model being used for future reprints of the original X-Wing booster.

Don't think they'll ever update the old model, sadly

No precedent, and no company will be nice enough to do so when they can milk you for saw's boxes

There is one thing I've seen done to help track Servos, however

Take the ship dial icons of the x and z95. Glue em together. Use as token to track servo position without always having to refer to card

I don’t see people buying 5 Saw’s Renegades to field a 5 X-Wing squad with moveable wings. I do see people buying a couple then using the old X-Wing to fill out the squad. I’ve got plenty of the original X-Wings to fill several 5 ship squads.

However, if they released the new X-Wing as an individual expansion then I’d probably buy enough to fill out a whole squad plus a few extra.

I see Saws Renegade pack selling well but I’d also see a new T-65 expansion selling very well.

Counterpoint- why maintain two molds when you can double down on the new one?

I doubt they'd update the models.

To the best of my knowledge they've not updated the original Falcon to the new moulds, nor the original T65 to the HoTR moulds.

But it would be cool if they DID update it in reprints.

(The X-Wing getting flappy wings makes me sad for the missed opportunity on the StarViper, the model is SO close to having folding wings built in.)

I do think it would be cool if they started 2nd single ship blisters.

A Blue Squadron T-65 blister pack would be awesome.

The only time I can think of that they have rereleased a model in a single blister is Sabine’s TIE.

If they do not include the renagade refit it would make sense business wise.

Wouldn't happen for HotR as it came with a T-70 and not a T-65.

It came with a new sculpt of the T70, which could have been back-filled into the blisters and TFA cores, but to the best of my knowledge, wasn't.

Merrick and Blue Squadron

But an x-wing 2.0 starter would be the perfect place for the new model.

True. However, I still think the possibility of that is years away.

Why would they update the falcon?

Wishful thinking, but I hope they do update the standard X-wing expansion to include the new model, add Renegade Refit along with Servomotor S-Foils (Integrated Astromech as well?), and maybe replace Wedge with Merrick and Garven with a Cavern Angel Zealot or another new Scarif X-wing ace. It might appeal to their profit margin to keep Wedge in the original X-wing pack exclusively.

Uh. . .

Image result for x-wing expansion pack

IMHO, it would behoove them to make the above expac with Merrick + Blue Squadron and the new sculpt and correct livery.

I would buy 4-8 of them for Epic. I am NOT going to buy 4-8 extra U-Wings to get the X-Wings I want.

I'd love to see a pack with an X-Wing and a Y-Wing. Or a Y-Wing and the RZ-1 A-Wing.

The wild card right now for buying multiple Saw’s Renegade is “Flight-Assist Astromech”. In a 5 X-wing list, you need 5 Flight Assist. Only place to get them is Saw’s or Sheathipede. Not sure why they included multiple copies of S-Foils and Retrofit but only one copy of Flight Assist. If they did it to encourage the purchase of multiple copies then why not include just one Servo and one Retrofit?

Agreed! New Y-Wing pilots with EPTs along with a new title that gives EPTs to current pilots.

Also new Blue Squadron X-Wing pilots, a Title for the T-65 and a Red Squadron title that gives a point reduction and small buff to Canon Red Squadron pilots. Garvin, Wedge, Biggs, Luke, Porkins....

The future of X-Wing is Palp on a Reaper.

That will make such lists much better in many cases, and I'm looking forward to it. That said, I think Rebel nonsense will continue to outperform that archetype given what we know at the moment. Until the future unpredictable nonsense of the future makes the current nonsense seem like good clean fun.

I doubt we’ll see a stand alone expansion. I was hoping to get a stand alone expansion for the attack shuttle so I would’ve have to buy 2 Ghost expansions.

A revised core set seems like the most likely place for this to show up. It doesn't even need to be a full second edition, look at the new Netrunner core.

I can see a lot of money being made on the 3D printing sites if the only place you can get an X-wing with the wings that move is this expansion.

Shouldn't you just be able to flip around the title card though? Maybe put a reminder token next to your ship if the wings are closed? (since -1 red die is the most important thing to remember)
