Second Edition Love???

By Evil Genius Prime, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I'm not joining the crowd with 3rd Edition. So I'm wondering if there are still some sites that support Second Edition. Adventures, Fan Supplements, etc. Any help getting pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Evil G.

The StS forums still seem very active (Strike to Stun I think it is?). There are also some very amusing anti-3rd posters there if that is of any interest.

EG, there is still a lot of WFRP2 play and there's a lot of product out there. I consistently pull out my stuff for ideas (especially the career compendium). Strike to Stun forums are best for 2e discussion.

I still own both 2nd and 3rd and will play either indescriminantly. In fact, my goal (time permitting) is to run a 2nd Ed. game with one of my RPG groups and a 3rd Ed. game with another and see where the two go and if there is any significant divergance in overall playstyle, setting immersion, player enjoyment and/or story-telling opportunities. My initial predictions are that there will be very little difference aside from the attitudes of the players themselves and their choices in character careers.

The antagonism against 3rd edition has really died down at Strike-to-Stun so there's no need to get the 3rd edition loyalty oaths out again. All editions can freely be discussed there - as well as discussions about the Warhammer World in general, without the need to be edition-specific.

Not so sure. Every time I say I happen to like something from the new edition I get jumped on by folks who froth at the mouth about all the unnecessary fiddly bits and crap that they don't want to pay for and will never use. Other than that, it is very good for 2e material and discussion. I really dislike the attitude, I never feel a need to go to the 2nd edition section and derail every discussion.

Agreed. That place is a bed of hotheads..but that can be fun too. ;)

Yeah, I like the attitude over there. It's almost like a snark board. :) Besides, I find that as long as your arguments are well-reasoned and articulate, they don't tend to attack you personally, even if they think you're wrong about what you're saying.

I'm not sold on the Strike to Stun pages yet. It does have forums and fan support for 2nd Edition though.

Strike To Stun

Anyway, the Black Industries website has been reactivated and while they don't have forums, they do have a lot of downloadable content available for use with 2nd Edition WFRP.

Black Industries Website

despite my doubts at first, I am really looking forward to running my 3ed game next month! I told the Dark Heresy GM to NOT sell his books because they are still good books. The cool thing is that Dark Heresy uses the 2ed system, so we get to play both if all goes well.

I'm looking at pulling my DH group into 2nd Edition for the same reason.

I meant we get to play both types of systems, so it's not like I am saying good bye to 2nd ed since DH uses it... did that make sense? Oh well...

Gotcha. That's cool.

I do like when companies are able to port a successful base system to another product in their line. It makes transition seemless to existing players of the other game.

I guess one of my issues with 3e WFRP is that 2e wasn't broken. In fact, the base rule set is still being used in DH and RT. It was similar to what D&D by going to 4th ed in their game. 3.5 was far from perfect, but it could have been fixed and was a pretty solid system.

With WFRP, it seems that FFG had a product that was great and got rid of it since it already had a fan base and they couldn't rake in the money anymore since everyone had the rulebooks already. I suppose you can't make a ton of money off of reprinting pre-existing material. With some minor tweaks to the WFRP game, I'm sure they could have brought the game in line with DH and had two or more games with an intertwined rule set.

My favorite Fantasy system is WFRP 2e. It's flexible and detailed.
