Yet another conner net question

By sirjorj, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I give these a try for the first time last night and in looking at the rules, I see I got a few things wrong.

After reading the clarification on the FAQ and some posts here I know understand that:

  1. Nym drops a conner net on Poe
  2. Poe instantly takes a damage (or 2 if Sabine is there), and takes 2 ion tokens
  3. When Poe activates, he uses the maneuver he set but loses his action

Then:

  1. Nym drops another conner net on Poe
  2. Poe instantly takes a damage (or 2 if Sabine is there), and takes 2 ion tokens
  3. When Poe actives, he does the white 1 straight, loses his action, and removes all 4 ion tokens so he is no longer ionized.

I don't like that the second one does not effectively ionize him, but I get that it makes the rules more consistent.

My Question: In the "Then" example above, if Nym instead move far enough ahead and dropped the conner net right in front of Poe and not on him, what order would the events trigger? Would it be:

  1. Poe does white 1 straight, removes the tokens, detonates the conner net, and takes damade/loses action/takes 2 ion tokens, or
  2. Poe does white 1 straight, detonates the conner net, takes damage/loses action/takes 2 ion tokens, THEN removes all 4 ion tokens?

Thanks and sorry to bring this up again!

"If a ship is ionized, executes its [1 Straight] maneuver, and overlaps a Connor Net, all ion tokens are discarded at the end of the maneuver (including those received from Connor Net)." (X-Wing FAQ, Version 3.2, Updated 09/04/2015)

Essentially;

  • If you complete a maneuver, all ion tokens you have when you started the maneuver go away.
  • You then take the effects of any mines or ion projectors said maneuver set off (which could re-ionize you).
  • If you have ion tokens at the start of the turn, you don't get to set a dial.
  • If you do already have a dial set, receiving ion tokens after this point (i.e. someone drops a net on you before you move) doesn't 'un-set' the dial.
  • If you were hit by a net in a turn, you always skip your action step.

So 2 replies, and 2 different answers? :) I don’t feel bad about asking this anymore. I think @nexttwelveexits has it right though. Funny thing is I read that multiple times before but it never sank in.

Thanks!

The last part was quoted by nexttwelveexits and is in line with option 2 in your original post @sirjorj
