Concerns with the Magos Ascended career.

Please excuse my ignorance ... but I was looking through the Ascension book last night and could find an explanation for one of the advancement types I saw. What is Unnatural [characteristic]? Just a +5 to a stat when you take it?

Thanks for the help, cheers!

Unnatural doubles the BONUS for a stat, so lets say you have strength 40, but you also have unnatural strength x2, when striking with a melee weapon you get 8 damage from strength now, instead of 4. The exception being the Unnatural agility does not affect movement speed, only Unnatural speed does.

Thanks for the help!

There's a section in the core book that explains it in better detail as I think it has another affect on opposed test.

Unlocking Fel as an Elite Package is something I'd consider very happily. Starting on the 500 mark. What'd I call it?

Cult Mechanicus Moderator. E.g. a techpriest who actually does the sermons/cult side of the Cult Mechanicus; i.e. preaches to the Machine Cultist; not every cultist is an ordained priest!

This'd similarly apply to certain techpriests (and Secutors, IMO) who apply themselves to actually leading Mechanicus troops or congregations.

Simply put: The Adeptus Mechanicus is big enough and ugly enough to accomodate people who's argumentative style is better than their actual logic. (Techpriests have plenty of time for logical fallacies, right? Some are probably enshrined; appeal to authority is mandatory, ad hominem is fine as long as the opponent doesn't qualify as 'hominen'.)

I was thinking of an alternative to assist Tech Priests and Magos characters and had originally posted something similar in another thread, but I think it applies here more.

What if instead of reducing fellowship permanently, you just apply any implant reductions as a penalty to tests instead? In other words, keep the attribute at it's unmodified or true fellowship value, but based on implants and other factors related to being a Tech Priest/Magos you apply a cumulative penalty to relevant tests instead based on the reduction amount of the implants?

Some benefits would be that you can test at your natural Fellowship attribute when dealing with other Mechanicus NPCs or characters. When using career related abilities that rely on Fellowship you would also use the true value. It also would allow you to use your true Fellowship value to qualify for talents, skills or other things related to your career progression or transition packages.

For all other situations, the penalties from cumulative implants would apply.

The only detriment I can see is forgetting to apply the penalty when taking a test, but I'm sure the GM will remind you if they notice.

I think this is an amicable and reasonable solution to this issue.

Let me know what you think?

I like this idea quite a lot.

Again as I stated in the other thread, the only issue I have is that getting good reputation will still be next to impossible. Otherwise though, it looks good.

I wish I had an answer for this. That is a big issue too.

You could just make them no Pre-req elite advances that one could take after spending x-amount of time around a group. I mean, this is how you would actually get a good rep anyways right?

True. That could work as well. Since you're already having to discuss my suggestion with the GM in your group to use it, you may as well bring up this option as well.

They also could be used as rewards for certain actions. If during an adventure a character does something that helps a certain group he might gain the Peer advance. Or if he does something really remarkable, like saving the life of a leader of a group, he might gain the Good Reputation advance.

Hrm... I don't have Ascension so I only have your comments and the Magos preview to go off of, but you know how the Mags has a 'choose one'? Like Tech-Tinker? Well what if they got another option like 'Let them hate, as long as they fear' or another equally cool name. lengua.gif

Essentially what this would do is change all bionics/modifcations that a magos has that cause negative FEL modifiers to POSITIVE modifiers. Yeah he's ugly as poop, but everyone is feared into doing what the Magos wants. lengua.gif Fluff wise I you could say this type of magos has mastered the art of making his modifcations look as cool/intimidating as possible as compared to other magi. If its still way to hard to meet FEL reqs, maybe toss in an immediate free +5 stat boost to FEL as well. happy.gif

Atlernatively, 'let them hate' could change FEL reqs to INT reqs like others have already suggested. Just a thought. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well to be honest the Tech Priest Magos Advanced career is fairely borked in some parts, I think the best way (and the way I handled it ingame) is when dealing with members of the tech priest hierachy you use Logic in place of normal social skills and INT instead of FEL. If you apply the same to the social talents and so on it would work out. However I was so hoping for more technowizardry for the ascended Magos then what was there >< (even inventing rules for near gear for example >< after all that seems part of their whole idea). FFG can you prehaps comment on this ?

Will those bonus's are not too bad, but I was hoping for some official here is how you "make stuff" rules for the tech priest, after all the Magos is supposed to be only level where a tech priest can "invent" new things !
