The Ultimate Star Wars: Legion Survey

By Big Easy, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey all, I made a comprehensive survey to find out more about us as a community and our thoughts on the game! I'm really looking forward to seeing the results. Let me know if you think of any questions that can be added:

Very nicely made survey. I’m interested to see the results.

Done

Looking at results, there are no indicators of what each colour represents for the late graphs.

Interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for checking it out! Do you mean on the legend of results on items where there are several responses? There is a little arrow where it says 1/2 that you can click on to expand the results. Or do you mean something else? Either way thank you for the feedback.

Just hit over 100 responses! So far my big surprises are:

  • Nearly half of all respondents say they plan to play both factions
  • 93% of respondents have never played Legion on Tabletop Simulator
  • 52% of respondents play their games at a FLGS, and nearly 80% have purchased at least one Legion item from a FLGS

Unfortunately, I neglected to include a 2-3 hour option on the game duration question, so I suspect the 1-2 hour response is overrepresented. I have since added it if you want to update your original answer.

Well, on my phone I couldn't access the legend at all.

I love the rules for the most part but so far the RRG on LOS/Cover is terrible and the direction that we seem to be going isn't a big improvement.

Ah sorry, I'll have to check that out and see if I can fix.

The gender result is hilariously spot on; my wife's eye rolls are grazing the moon.. Luckily I have two young sons that hopefully won't be too cool for Dad's dorky hobbies before I get my army painted. haha

As indicated by Amanal above, another interesting metric to explore would be to see how many people think the rules need some tweaking, omissions &/or additions, and specifically which, how and why.

Interesting thanks

Yeah, a question with "what could be improved".

Personally, it's the whole "true LoS" and "50%" I don't like. IMO there should be templates (like for Infinity) for shapes, maybe with gradients to represent the 50% or something.
Also, some of the cover system is a bit wonky, but heh, it's a simplified rule.
Oh, and last but not least: I saw a batrep where the buys deployed with congo-line cohesion, basically gaming the system. It's a bit obnoxious.

Maybe open the what have you painted to more options. I haven't painted anything but Armada squads and printed ships for tabletop games before, but I did do a lot of model kits that were not for tabletop games.

Based on the great response so far to this survey, I'll definitely do a follow-up with more specific questions about rules, painting, and list building.

congo-line cohesion

What? Cohesion is measured from the unit leader only, you can't chain it.

You can put half in front and half behind though. Makes a Congo line with Sarge in the middle. Not sure why it's obnoxious or gaming the system though?

Well, it was more like 4 in front one in back, and there were other occasions where it was gamed.

I wonder if others see this as gamey. It seems to me if the rules say they can be that far away, that's a good play. I don't want to make anyone upset, but all I have to go on is the rules.

Well I felt the rules were written to make it simpler, not to make people require weird jumps to get shots.

At least, cover and range are done from the squad leader.

Great survey mate, interested to see what the results are when you close it out.

Yeah, I feel like requiring the squad leader to be the more important one for attacking means that any "gaminess" done with cohesion has a limited negative effect. You can hide them behind a corner from the squad leader, but then they can't contribute to the attack. Or you can push them in front of the squad leader, but then you're still measuring range and LoS from the squad leader so all you're doing is making your own unit in closer range to the enemy but not the other way around.

I'm going to keep the survey open one more day, and hopefully share results tomorrow. If you want to be counted, submit your response today! Already close to 400 responses.

I was looking for the results of the survey to use in a comment on our channel, but stumbled on this.

Sorry if it seemed really gamey. It wasn’t intended to be obnoxious, were we getting that wrong?

Cheers.

I know you're asking about the original commenter, but I don't see this as gamey. I would prefer if my opponent didn't take too long to do it (carefully eyeballing each individual mini and giving each one a full 1-speed measurement). But the idea of using range and cohesion distance to your advantage while quickly placing your troops is no problem at all to me.
