U-Wing VS. TIE Reaper: Why do they have the wrong bases?

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

No seriously hear me out. I get making the U-Wing a large base, they're not exactly difficult to shoot down and those wings are definitely a thing that need to be considered. On top of that, it's a transport. I get it.

But why does the much, much larger TIE Reaper have a small base?

It's larger, it can carry sodding palpatine, and it's agile as ****. It even has a better attack value! What's with this thing? This is about as confusing as it gets for this game if you ask me. They really ought to have opposite bases.

Because they didn't make a medium base for the game.

'Cause the Wookie ship is a better U-Wing than the U-Wing, so they gave the Imps a small shuttle that obsoletes the Lambda-class?

They have the correct bases.

100% of the answer is here.

Superior Imperial technology

Everytime I look at the save the rebellion article i always snicker when i see the picture of the U-wing and Reaper. The Reaper looks sooo big compared to the U-wing.

It's CRAZY!

Advanced Ailerons

Because gameplay > fluff (designing around the lambda overlap)

Also the U's giant-*** wingspan

This was coming down the pike, the best crew carrier as she’s tough and is mostly a turret without the salt.

Yeah, it’s the designers apologizing for the previous shuttle dials, I’ll wager.

Because they play the way the designers wanted them to play on these bases. Full stop.

Because I find it easier to store the smaller bases than the larger ones. Everything Imperial, regardless of scale, will now get a small base.

Your Arquitens Cruiser will tip over a lot, but it's a small price to pay.

I'm waiting with interest to see, to be honest. After all, it appears to have a red turn, but advanced ailerons also appears to do a dial-colour-changing-thingey.

Which, combined with an adaptive-aileron-esque ability (I'm saying esque because it's worded similarly but not the same) makes me highly suspicious that it's not a free autoinclude, but a meaningful choice; do you want a budget lambda that can still carry palpatine but let you fettle out your aces more, or a palp carrier that can actually fly but cuts into their cost more than a lambda? Or - since it's apparently got a segnor's loop - a unique that's a palp-carrying sort-of-ace?

Because FFG decided that they'll just sell small base ships in the big ship boxes and charge us more?

Back on the actual topic, Yes, I get that it's due to the wingspan in flight mode, but yes, the TIE silencer and Reaper don't half feel silly on small bases. The Reaper miniature in particular looks about as stable as Kylo Ren with a hangover.

It's not about the size of your base, it's about the effectiveness of your upgrades.

That's a fantastic mental image. Thank you for it.

Missing out on 50 square centimetres of plastic is such a rip off. They should include like 4 small bases with it to justify the price.

This is one of my two problems with it.

The other being I wanted it as a Hux/Systems Officer caddy, and the large base is really helpful for that.
