Eh r2d2 rookie kinda sucks

I'd throw it on Poe and given him advanced optics

Then stick the rookie with Chopper

But if I do that, I have to use up the rookies cards to regen shields. So Refit would go, then integrated would be gone, as would S-Foils. So, 3 regens. R2-D2 has no limit.

Poe with R5-P9 can use his ability on both attack, defense and then spend it at the end of the round for a shield

Eh you're never going to get more than 3 regens with something as flimsy as a rookie anyway. It's just a generic pilot with no further defenses, it's really not worth investing r2d2 into

Buffing Poe with the greater flexibility of optics + r2d2 will give you a far stronger list overall

With Chopper on a rookie, cut off refit, then S-foils if you really need to regen a second shield. Don't burn integrated; keep it and use it burn Chopper instead. Having the ability to discard a crit on demand is better than having a shield token. Worst case, you have to use IA to negate a regular hit, but that is the same utility you'd get from a shield token anyway. By keeping IA you lose nothing but gain some added flexibility.

Plus you get irony. After Chopper throws stuff out of your x-wing, you get to throw him out.

The problem there is not only am I having to sack off an upgrade. But it's also costing me an action

I ran a triple Regen list way back when TFA core set was released with Poe and it looked pretty similar, except with integrated and trick shot on Poe to shave points. Obviously having an extra 2 points to play with is better.

The rookie being a rookie meant he got ignored a lot and ended up causing more damage than he ought to. Where I was less pleased was with R5-P9 Poe, who always had to focus as his action instead of boosting to r1 or stacking a target lock. Even with that experience I know some people swear by R5-P9 over R2-D2 for Poe so I would encourage you to try both and see which you prefer :)

With Chopper as an option now for cheap Regen I would definitely try that as well if for no other reason than to get more stuff for the other guys.

Give it all a try @benlane17 !

Kind of. If a generic X-wing gets through his shields twice over, he's officially having a bad game and is kind of justified in having the rest of the day off.

The reason for Poe having R5-P9 is that Poe obvs doesn't need to spend his focus.

Chopper saves me points but it means I won't have any mods that round if I use him due to having to regen shields which is why I haven't gone for it.

Wedge Antilles - Expertise, R5-P9, Renegade Refit, Integrated Astromech, Servomotor S-Foils - 33
Luke Skywalker - Lone Wolf, R2-D2, Renegade Refit, Integrated Astromech, Servomotor S-Foils - 31
Miranda Doni - Twin Laser Turret - 35

Sounds like fun.

Have you tried it on the table yet? How did it go?

I do understand the reasoning behind R5Poe, and it is pretty legit: open dial and frees up other upgrade slots and points. I personally prefer boosting or target locking, especially now that Adv Optics is a thing.

Not yet. Not played in over a month :(

Treble Rebel Regen is totally something you can pull off though! Here is an example:

Horton Salm

TLT

Chopper

Title

GC

Bomb Loadout

EM

Luke Skywalker

Expertise

R5-P9

Refit

IA

S-Foils

Wes Janson

Expertise

R2-D2

Refit

IA

S-Foils

Horton has free rerolls, and can focus when possible to boost offense more. When he needs, Chopper can give 6 regens easy, maybe 7 if you want to lose the TLT (but lose the title first so you get better shooting). Luke is hella hard to kill, and when he is worried, can focus for regen or defense if needed, while Wes can hinder opposing offense. They can also both hit VERY hard thanks to Expertise and TLs if they aren't being targeted.
