What is X-Wing to you?

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

A game I wish I could play more.

It's my favorite game. I love X-Wing. It's brilliant.

This is no joke or sarkasm by the way, I truly feel this way.

I often build different lists, just for fun, which is a part of the game to me, that I can play outside of the actual XWing events.

But in general I regard myself an ambitious casual player, because I do not attend any official tournaments, but I love to play tournaments with my friends (we're 4 players usully).

Amen!

I’m fortunate enough to go to a gaming group where all the x wing players share this attitude too. Makes fortnightly game nights always fun :)

For me X-Wing is a time to be with my best friend each week and have a great time! ?

Almost a strictly a casual player. I play because the game is fun. A get together with old friends, meet new friends and basically just relax.

Since most is casual play a lot of the salt and whining seen in these threads doesn't filter down to our tables.

While I've watched all the movies and the animated series of Rebels and Clone Wars I don't care about fluff. I've only read one book, Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, which I thought was entertaining. Star Wars is not part of my childhood. I was 26 when it was released. Maybe this game is part of my second childhood?

I think the game is relatively well balanced. Yes there are those extremely OP builds and specific combos that give the competitive crowd something rail about but I think you find that a lot of games have that.

Guessing enemy moves, scheming strategies and taking risks to set up a shot, try to stay alive on a knife's edge, pint in hand, mates at the table.... this is X-Wing to me.

It is a fantastic game that I am decent at that I love playing. I have fun every time I play, so even when I lose, I don't lose.

Boy, I can tell you what XWM is not to me:

If this was how I was initially presented the game, I wouldn't be all that interested.

This article is basically the opposite of everything I want out of this game.

I accidentally discovered it watching Wil Wheaton' s TableTop and was pretty much addicted. A bunch of years and a whole bunch of $ later I still enjoy my "Plastic Crack".

A game where I can escape from work and not be stressed. Fly around plastic spaceships and say pew pew.

To to be honest, I’m more sick of the negativity on podcasts than the actual game itself. Sure, Ghost/Fenn, Nym/Miranda, and the like are aweful to play against, but they aren’t ever in the local meta. The game is healthy at the FLGS across the country because when it comes down to it, it’s a game with plastic spaceships and people just want to have fun.

Yup, this ^^^

The game environment is the one we create. The current environment online and through the podcasts is toxic because people make it so and chose to only play tournaments or highly competitive play and then complain about it.

If you enjoy highly competitive play, stop complaining about it being competitive.

If you don't enjoy competitive play, play at home with your friends. I do and its awesome.

My meta is filled with X-Wings, Millennium Falcons, Tie Fighters and random stuff we pull out of our collections. My youngest broke the turret ball off my K-Wing and it hasn't gone pew pew pew since. My meta also has beer and pretzels.

For me the game is about Star Wars. I've never been interested in 100/6 tournament style games. I'll never break immersion by blending OT and ST characters, I have next to no interest in obscure EU ships no matter how powerful they are. I just want to play Star Wars.

I'm 90% casual, 10% competitive. I enjoy this game for a fun night and a beer with friends and family. Ships or combinations we find too crazy we just don't use out of common courtesy. If the other person didn't have fun, then what's the point of a game?
