By Pelzak, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi,

Does it make sense to fly 5 generic X-wings like that?

T-65 X-wing Rookie Pilot

Integrated Astromech (0)

S-Foils (0)

Flight-Assist Astromech (1)

Renegade Refit (-2)

Total:20

While on paper it looks tempting I'm not sure it will have enough punch to push the damage.

What you think?

BR,

Pelzak

Fly it if you want to and can stand blanking out hard on your 3 dice primaries modded only with focus

I'm sure they'll do fine (IF you're willing to put in the effort, theyre not turrets )a few people have done just fine with generic spam such as this even nowadays

But I'd wait for the reveal of the ps 1 pilot. If it's just 1 point less you can fit four with an m9g8 Tarn Mison, and he's super legit (also gives a buddy full mods while he's being ignored by the enemy)

Pretty much the only way to do it if you're going to commit to it.

I suppose you can mix in some of the other 1 pt astromechs, but I think FAA is the best option.

If you can formation fly well, and put all five in range of a single ship: that's 3 x 5 = 15 dice per round.

You also have to know when to use them to block opponents ships. It's not always about attacking but denying actions and setting up high percentage chances to land hits.

I flew this list just yesterday. It's true that having only a focus for attack most of the time can be a let down, but it's a lot of firepower. And those things really can block like champs. Take TLs when appropriate and you can scare almost anything. There are tough matchups, and frustrating ones, but it's solid and fun. Go for it. (although the poster above is right about Tarn, once the PS1s are spoiled.

Or like an r2-d6 selflessness Biggs to force them to split fire and keep guns on the table longer

I would probably avoid Biggs. T-65s gain a lot of manoeuvrability between servomotors and flight assist; nailing them to a range 1 bubble robs them of this. And besides, in that situation biggs is the most expensive pilot on the table; he's a natural first target anyway.

I assure you from experience with strikers that whilst an individual 3-dice focused attack can come a-cropper, 5 of them is just brutal, especially since flight assist should let you keep your nose 'this side towards enemy' without giving up focus tokens too often.

In the unlikely event that the PS1 X-wings only cost 19 points, you could make a squad of four FAA Zealots plus VI FAA Wedge.

In the much more likely event that they are 20 points, you can still run VI FAA Wedge + four astroless Zealots. Obviously not as good, but it's still a 3-dice mini-swarm behind a solid PS11 ace.
