Watching the third episode it still seems our main character is in way over his head. While I enjoy watching characters grow it seems very silly to put him in the situation he is in as it really seems he is set up to fail

Agreed. Poe showes up and says hey kid you're a good pilot! I am going to make you be a spy! And your cover will be as a mechanic! Probably would have worked better to just put him on the B squad of the aces and let him work his way up, or just had him be a good mechanic and a crummy pilot but got lucky and that's what Poe sees? Whatever. I enjoyed it, I like the different style for the animation especially in the combat sequence. That is where my excitement for the show is. I mean they already gave us pimped out pirate gunboats so we are off to a good start there.
