How common is to common

By Y Mab Darogan, in Genesys

So because of the recent fantastic book release I’ve rejigged the magic and magic users of my setting, which is fine.

However, I’m also repurposing runes as casters. Weapon gauntlets and Defense bracers (lesser casters for utility) and I’d like them to be more common than runes but can’t decide how common.

Any opinions?

I don’t want to bust my setting before I start. I’m not worried about the spellcasting aspect as I’ve built a limiter that only certain characters will get access based on a tier one talent and caster skill access.

Do they still have a Strain cost to use?

So long as other mundane weapons seem appealing then you should be fine. If you get to character creation with your group and everyone wants to use the spell weapons then you know they are too good

Unless I missed it I couldn’t see a strain cost for shard use, what page is that on?

It's in the core book. After making a magic skill check (and Runes is a magic skill) you suffer 2 strain.

Ah, I didn’t think that applied if using the rune only effect. I thought that was spend a manoeuvre to activate and till skill.

*Sorry if I’m not being clear I’m typing in work whilst the thoughts in my head but my phone shouldn’t be in my hand lol

Oh, the activation effect. I apologize. I thought you were talking about the implement effect. That's my bad. The activation effect doesn't cost strain.

Nah it’s me quick and sneaky typing lol.

So honest opinion, would making those activation effects (however I skin then) more common be hideously unbalanced.
