Running Veers with double AT-ST?

By Fauste, in Army Building

I see a lot of talk about double or triple speederbikes with Veers, but has anyone considered running double AT-ST’s with him? Something like the following:

799/800
General Veers 80
Esteemed Leader,
Stormtroopers 44
HH-12 Stormtrooper, Targeting Scopes,
Stormtroopers 44
Stormtrooper,
Stormtroopers 44
Stormtrooper,
AT-ST 195
88 Twin Light Blaster Cannon,
AT-ST 195
88 Twin Light Blaster Cannon,
74-Z Speeder Bikes 90

I’ve heard complaints that the AT-ST is over-costed, but it always seems to do work in the games I’ve played.

Thoughts? Concerns? Advice?

Your math is off. This list is 754 as listed. Which is fine, actually because it allows more room. So pick up the extra trooper for the HH unit. Grab a DLT for one of the other units, and slap a motor launcher on one of the AT's. That will bring you to 799.

Honestly I think it's a solid list that in the current meta, such that it is, would smash Rebel lists unless they are specifically armed and prepared for it. It might struggle against other Imperials, but right now, Imperial vs. Imperial match ups are a struggle.

With two AT-STs, you have ample anti-armour capability. Why the HH-12?

HH-12 isn't necessary here.

Double Veers ATST squads have been run quite a bit on TTS - I actually played one recently. I like building my ATSTs with Mortar and Grenade Launchers. I ran Veers, 2 ATSTs, and 4 Stormtrooper squads with DLTs. It works well, although you have to protect your thin Stormtrooper squads for objective based play. Since you opponent is very unlikely to destroy both ATSTs, if they are smart they will simply try to decimate your Stormtroopers to prevent you from playing objectives.

I played a game tonight at my FLGS and it worked out surprised well. I took your advice and dropped he HH-12 and added a DLT and some concussion grenades.

I decimated the rebels lanspeeder and one AT-ST took a whole turn of shots allowing my forces to focus on his units and make him too corps light to win the game.

I had my AT-STs covering each other to make it hard for Luke to get to them, but I wonder if my opponent had been more wreckless with Luke if he could have been more effective.

The tough part about Double ATST is that it'd going to take at least 3 turns to take them both down, IMO. And that's with focus. If they are focusing your ATSTs, then chances are you can do a lot of damage to their Corps, as you noticed.

Additionally, two ATSTs should be able to take Luke out pretty quick. Keep Veers near them, apply aim tokens, and fire like crazy. You made the decision to go for the Speeder, which was probably the correct one, but Luke would be another really good target to blow up early if they only have one commander.

Happy it worked for you though! It's a fun list. I need to buy a second ATST in real life.
