This makes me pretty sure that the Zealots will wind up at 20 points... but a guy can dream.

Given that Refit is -2 points, it'll almost certainly be 20. I can't see it going below that.

Where is this 19 pt x-wing coming from? 1 pt for 1 lower ps is the only way this can go. 20 pt zealots were a bygone conclusion. Now the question is if there will be 5 cards with only 3 tokens in the box....

I've seen a lot of speculation both before and after the preview article that the Zealots will be 19. There is some precedent for 1PS costing 2 squad points, but I agree with you that it's unlikely here given the refit discount. It'd be pretty nutty if it was, though. Five X-wings with Wedge? But even that probably wouldn't be enough to make a dent in the competitive scene.

20 pt Zealots would still give me two alongside expertise Rey, though, so I can still hang my hat on that.

Not really

Striker is sad exclusively because of turrets and green dice, it is otherwise a fine ship

The x really has to stay at LEAST two points apart to not completely step all over the poor thing

Indeed. 5 generic strikers vs 5 generic X-wings is an interesting matchup. But not if the X-wings are able to pack multipoint unique astromechs or pilots.

Most reasonable scenario would be 4 FAA zealots and an m9g8 tarn

Facing off against two LWF named strikers and a gaggle of naked generics

WE, m9g8 AP-5 is 21 points

so 1 FAA zealot is 19 (40 total), leaving room for 3 rookies (or more zealots and a bid, I guess?)

with ap-5 you do lose an entire primary but you get THREE mods (two m9g8 re-rolls and a coordinate). then again, he's nowhere near as sturdy as m9g8 Tarn. wonder if that's worth it

I'm no expert but I can tell you that I, personally, would instantly enjoy the game a lot more if the defender got to roll an extra green die* when outside the attacker's arc . Make it a change to the base rules just like adding a die when obstructed or at range three.

*(or the FGD version, simply add an evade result)

adding an evade result is typically more impactful than adding a blank die, yes

If the cavern angel is 19 pts, I demand the reaper to double jam.

Also... At 20 points and refit it is already cheaper than an interceptor. (With the ept discount)

So both ships can take 2 mods, but xwing has astro, more health, shields, trolls... I'm not sure that the interceptor dial is THAT much better.
