Ketsu' s ability.

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Started using ships that have been hanger queens for too long and I have a question about Ketsu' s ability.

Basically her ability reads "At the start of combat if an enemy's ship is inside your primary and mobile firing arcs at range 1 You can assign a tractor beam token to it". Can you do this if you've overlapped the ship? Can you assign the tractor beam token then barrel roll or boost it into arc?

I just started using large base ships and some of their abilities are new to me.

Yup! As long as the ship is inside both arcs at range 1 you can give it the tractor beam token, this includes a situation after an overlap, which can, yes, allow you to 'move' the ship so you can fire upon it.

The target is already in arc, or you wouldn't be able to resolve Ketsu.

Yes you can move a ship you are touching, so they are no longer touching. Then that ship is a valid target for an attack. Take advantage of the reduced agility while you can.

Thanks for the quick responses! I was pretty sure this was legit but not 100%.

Being able to token then barrel roll an enemy so you have a shot and he doesn't is a sweet trick!

That's one of the reasons why non-action cards like Dengar, Expertise, and Fearlessness are great on Ketsu: you can bump and miss actions, but tractor someone away, and open fire with extensive mods.
