Not interested in playing rebels, but FFG is almost forcing me to buy rebel minis to get the upgrades I want.

I'm hardly negative about it. I just proxy whatever cards I want because using rules cards as playing pieces is silly. I'm just stating what I think FFG will do, which is eventually revert to packaging attractive cards with models you otherwise wouldn't buy, because it will boost sales. This will become more evident, I think, as time goes on and their 'fix by design' philosophy comes into play. Fix cards are often very attractive but packaged with only a small selection of models. The TIE Advance fix or the new X Wing fix come to mind. At the very least I expect FFG to stretch the boundaries by making some cards only available to a single faction or in a single unit type for a very long time, but eventually making them more freely available AFTER all the 'must-buy-everything-as-soon-as-it's-released' players have already bought their copies.

And I fully intend to run both factions. This isn't an issue which affects me personally.

As an example, how many useless Comms Jammers do we have already?

The speeder bikes came with two when the unit can only use one. I've got five, thought about using one once, decided to spend the points elsewhere.

There will be no shortage of these extra cards.

Unlike X-Wing, some of the units we'll maybe buy in multiples of 6, if they plump up useless expansions with key cards I think they'll do more damage than good.

I don't think they will go with different cards in packs since they are currently designing the releases with a similar theme. Core infantry, core support, heavy hitters, courage/leadership commander, objective holder.

Comms Jammers are actually rather useful for some games.

Main one is if your opponent is playing a heavily focused force, which having Veers out will make even more possible for hitting the Imperials with it due to it messing up the use of command cards.

If you don't have any vehicle based cards for activations, having a quicker vehicle equipped with one means you can do things like rush and block them from either using that command card, or getting the full benefit of it. That is more for activation control than anything else.

You missed his point. He wasn't saying the card is useless, he was saying that having 5 of them with only 2 units to equip them, makes 3 of them useless

Commandos also have a Comms upgrade. While LRC might make for good use for snipers, generally you want infantry guys trundling around in the bubble of your commander anyway, so they might also utilize jammers - since we know they come with a new Comms upgrade. We should assume the imperial equivalent has the same upgrade bar, and so far all of them have the same generic upgrades.

Though that kind of speaks against the point, as it does look like FFG is highly future proofing upgrades, if you've basically got excess jammers for units which aren't even announced yet.

Him having 5 is kind of different from there being 2 in the set.

For Imperials, they work great on speeder bikes, and having 2 with the expansion means that you can also use them on the ones in the starter set if you want to try messing with your opponents activations with both of them. The bikes move fast enough that you can start causing things there in the early game. Most people I know are also going with double starter sets, which means, even more, that you can use the extras.

On top of that, they aren't unit specific, so having extras now makes it easier to utilize them later on with other expansions that are still in the future.

On the subject of cards, I know personally that if I go to a tournament, I'll have a battlescribe printout for reference. If the TO requires cards, they will be in a neat little ziplock bag in the army case.

The cards look nice, and help when learning the game.

This leads me to ask: Do the English expansions have two copies of each card?
In Germany we have EN/DE expansion packs with two entire sets of cards. One in German, one in English.

In France I only got cards in French...

I just don’t care. I factor the point costs for both of them with a list builder and then put shared upgrade cards between unit cards and say “they both have this”. We aren’t playing super serious tourneys, so who cares?

Until we get a Legion version of Boba Fett crew card I guess that can force you to discard something?

Help FFG is FORCING ME to buy things!!!

The U.S. expansions only come with 1 set of cards, printed in English

I may have to pick up an expansion when I am in Germany next month. :P

Edit: I assume the graphics are the same, I speak German so it would be more for an opponent.
